Dave Campbell, Red Sox Pregame

Dave Campbell from ESPN radio alongside back here at Fenway Park. Dave I guess the question on the minds of a lot of Red Sox fans just how good are these New York Yankees because they look like they have no weakness when they play the Red Sox.

Yeah I care course you go back to may -- when the -- sacks had gotten done taking care of the Yankees look like the Red Sox had absolutely no weaknesses in fact they have such a surplus of pitching your birdie was feeling sorry for the rest of baseball so. Right now the Yankees are on a tremendous role. What 62 and Torre know last night he -- games. -- all things seem to be going well but to. You know this is still a team to me that's not terribly athletic defensively at Teixeira has really helped them first base defensively itself the infield in Jeter's improvement. You know let's that a team that you can say is going to automatically win the world title -- because you're on a tremendous role right now.

Certainly will mean the offense speaks for itself but what Brian Cashman was able to do in the off season addressing his pitching staff and fortified his rotation. Has -- a huge difference.

Staff it's kind of amazing what Porter and 43 million dollars of the room and get to CC sabathia and AJ Burnett then you throw -- Mark Teixeira as well and yes nice to have that kind of money to throw around in a kudos to the Yankees -- they they can do that and although they found out there Torii 500 dollar seats were going to sell so well this year some -- come up with some revenue streams from somewhere else.

Yet certainly seems like they're never short when it comes to dollars and cents. That being said. How about the Red Sox right now mean there -- teams that are. Reeling when it comes to the Yankees they're not really in the fight for the division anymore it's all about the wild card you look at the Texas Rangers in the Tampa Bay Rays. It looks like a race it's going to go right down the wire yeah.

I mean it is and I mean again the the -- actually in baseball besides there great pitching staff straight hitting is you never have enough pitching and the Red Sox certainly had more pitching and leave anybody else in the back in the month in my favor right now it appears like it's. You know you know Beckett Lester and you know kind of keep your fingers trust after that I mean -- feels it outing had to be encouraging last night down at Pawtucket Griffey's okay. I mean it is no question the Red Sox need you know Wakefield a comeback and I don't know whether you can count on -- and have a somebody else is going to step up they gotta have at least four solid starters because. That puts a lot of pressure on Beckett Lester than every time they go out to the club has to win them. That is kind of a toss up -- anybody else should put in the rotation so. You know -- if if Wakefield can come back and stabilize things and I -- he eats innings and helps the bullpen and it's he's such an unsung hero on this ballclub and has been for years and when he's been out the Red Sox have suffered.

How about the rangers' David team that's just to gain back a team that hasn't really been through it much before they. A lot of people keep waiting and sort of expecting them to -- they haven't really done it yet.

Now I and I think -- part of the reason is some of the young pitchers they've brought up Terry Collins youngster when he first came up through baptism under fiery got hammered around it. He's really stabilize things that Tommy honors another guy. I mean when I was looking at if the Rangers back in May I was looking at the rotation they had -- the deal was kind of you know live wire and figured Millwood might breakdown at some points and then -- when Harrison broke down I thought you know the readers are going to go in the tank -- it. They obviously had some -- it to a triple whether they got his -- tally Feliz comes out of the bullpen throwing hundred miles an hour. So there you know the one thing you look at going on the stretches who has the best pitching and you know I mean I still like the Red Sox bullpen not as much as I did earlier in the season -- been touched up a little bit lately and perhaps not quite what he was two years ago but.
