Is always time to talk football for me I'd love the National Football League and a trailer even now on the offseason of these old -- I'm not that big on the OT -- donating it way too much attention but the coverages over the top for the NFL and a man who knows all about that because he is part. All of the the media now he's a media guy. Former patriot assistant coach lot of people don't know that they only think of them is an NFL head coach but he actually work with the patriots back in the eighties early eighties the great Jim Moore. But they do you know we work together for a for a short time and I know now both listeners have moved on from that that placed I am glad I everytime I see on TV go to get fired up how's that gone forward.

It's going -- and I've enjoyed working for NFL network bad data now for five seasons. Good organization a lot of good people down there over and LA and Culver City and has been thought has been a fun experience former.

Not imagining you work with the pages back to what 1982 lot of people I don't remember that what was your experience like when you. You were coaching in the Boston.

Well I enjoyed it I had -- Never worked on the east coast before -- come from the Seattle Seahawks -- assistant coach char Ron Meyer has just gotten the job that they head coach of the patriots then. I went back there interviewed after the defensive coordinator job we hired me I was scared I was only there once season and it was this strike season it was this seat at what we played a couple of games and then. The players went on strike and we didn't play for like out of a 789 weeks something like that I just. Prepared every week would ever played in and we came back it was battle toward the end of this he's and we played the last few games.

And now we ended up making the playoffs went down to Miami and lost in the plant that pay them memorable. Thing for patriots fans about that visa ban.

That was the year of this snow plow incident okay.

I remember the years and they were that was. Eight they guy came out of the -- on. Cleared off the field and we kicked a field goal and beat the dolphins three not that in a while snowstorm.

Seems to snow delay in Foxboro it you know even navy has us going down the street seems like. The patriots playing lately here is they almost half the players know that this justice.

You're on any college you're doing when it's gonna post some and very football state.

I absolutely -- SP you talked about that strike you in 1982 you know the labor situation in the NFL right now is unresolved shall we say. What do you hear you're suns obviously coaching in the NFL you do you deal would -- do you think they're gonna be able to work out a new labor agreement or have a work stoppage.

Well you know what I I got some kind of some information from a good friend of mine who has been -- president GM -- team I'm not gonna mention his name. We were together for a few days here a couple of months ago and he seemed quite concerned as to whether or not. Think we're gonna get worked out and and I and I don't know the details of what's going on but but I know the agreements up here after the 2000 give these and I think it is.

And the east seem to think that there's the possibility that step. You know that if we may not happen.

Part of -- these literacy and after that but it's going to be maybe a little bit more of a struggle to get things worked out that that's some people realize that's all I know.

would you guys do -- the NFL network if there's no games coach.

I could figure out what happened there's -- games right now owners and operating go up.

Can you really judge anything this time they don't just the -- to training camp what is your impression that Tom Brady right now.

I love Tom Brady you know a lot when I was coach in the colts'. I last year night.

Started for the but the patriots we will play MMI think the third game of the these and we won our first two weapon Foxboro. I'm a walking up the field before that before the game and and and you know we get paid man in that this is and he was in his fourth year. And and I thought this kid throwing the ball warming up any Eagles -- I thought. -- looked like it was too big point.

And he and that team kicked our tail that day I've always been a huge Tom Brady fan huge --

I love his leadership by allowed his work ethic allowances.

Competitiveness.

When it comes through in the clutch I mean make plays when he need to make -- a winner. I love it I think he picked a great player and and I think that they have a great great keep have a great organization I mean they have good players have good coaching. Last year they're eleven and five but don't make the playoffs they were better payment in teams have made the playoffs they're gonna be -- again this year.

And you'd be happy and welcomes back -- I know you're coaching at the time and I was on the radio and I -- rip the patriots is our top ready to play. Of course I don't. That well an -- one -- and Bledsoe got hurt and out to be a Brady TI don't think for a startup quiet yet before he still have to see you know he's in the mid round draft -- all rounder rounder -- Abdullah -- undrafted guys I there's no way in on he made it look like you depleted unit arms.

In a question about what about the trade though lot of people tell shaking their head. And Matt Cassel traded to -- Kansas City Chiefs for a second round draft pick is that enough do you think he played pretty well last year when Tom Brady got hurt.

He played great and -- it it's a backup quarterback he played he played extremely well for being a backup quarterback they won eleven games and he was very efficient and you know. I don't know office sector around it is that not that that I. It's gonna be NS NS TI does with the chiefs I don't know what they got to their back up now the patriots but that.

you know what's important have a good back up your one play away from lobbied in the game as a starter so.

I think I think people would can't you know lady I just think you could get football planning a big he's going to do a good job with the -- is he is -- Tom Brady probably not.

But. I think he's a pretty good quarterback.

Now your son is back to head coach in the NFL congratulations on that would be. Seattle Seahawks this year and I know the expectations. Aren't particularly great -- lot of guys were injured last year for that team. How as the transition -- and you talk demolish -- he was -- the falcons and we were working together. It always it go down -- again as you want to if you lose games you're able to go to that many of them because your. Media responsibilities but about how are things go for your son -- Seattle.

Well our broadcast they're undefeated they have had and that's good.

I -- every other team in the league but I you know he's been working hard right from the get go he you know he was he knew it was going to be they head coach they're ready ready. Kind of stayed. In the background needed wanted you know. Do anything before he was you know orchestrated coach that you know -- staff and and and and now the the -- they -- you know the off. He's an activity he got all right guys -- in in Seattle on their work and articulate -- OP -- in. They get to mini camps you're allowed three mini camp when your new head coach he's got another one coming up next week a three game mini camp I think they were happy with their draft.

You know he's he's fired up I know he's working hard and you know we got competitive -- NFL head of a lot of crazy things happen during the course is these habitat.

At this point I think most -- coaches -- A fired up and excited and are ready to get don't want.

Now -- the great Jim Moore a former NFL coach now is not a broadcaster the NFL network. And we have a question from a listener of WEEI. Got a text -- 86 though. He says question for you coach -- how was coaching Peyton Manning that. The the first year in the F -- what's your relationship with Peyton Manning and in to have been -- you're obviously great friends -- what was it like early in his career when your coach.

Well yeah I know patent that he was a little kid because when I was the go to the states. You know he grew up in -- wall of his dad Archie was -- Brandon and worked for the states is that as an analyst on our on our radio broadcasts they need to come in the locker room and and after games and steal things out of the player's locker at night to kick him out of the locker room when he was a little kid mini mall where a lot when he was an.

I can't wait a minute are you reporting Payton stole stuff lot of locker.

I used to feel about you know a headband and wrist bands and stuff like that. I kicked him out Archie get madam may impact can -- but I've noticed it known name in the family prologue time and.

He's you know operation paid -- eat like Tom Brady and I don't know Tom Brady but. Lately they've got a great work ethic he's extremely competitive -- got ballot he he wants to win in the worst way to do everything it takes step. If they win then to be successful -- and he's been very successful and that.

You know his first year we started every game forces first year was my first year they head coach.

1998. And we are three of thirteen. They -- good seeing you could see that he was going to be special and then the next year we were thirteen 31 the division. And you know he's taken up since abandoned and it had a great career but he. He's a joy to coach because he's he's he's so competitive and winning is and be as successful and and it is so important to women you know whoever takes step. To get it done and and and to be successful.

And the best news coaches you guys in draft Ryan leaf which job. --

I don't know how we we labored along diamond and put in many our strategy we knew we had the first pick and we knew we -- gonna take a quarterback. And I was gonna be one of those two guys and obviously we made the right decision.

Alan get your opinion Tom Moore the longtime offensive coordinator in Indianapolis he is -- I guess forced to retire. Because of beat the new rules with the pension plan it's kind of complicated. But I know you're you're still -- friends -- you know the situation was your reaction. To him at a number of other veteran longtime NFL assistant coaches. Who have been forced to retire because of this.

Well you know I'd hire Tom in 1998 when I first got here he's been there ever -- and also heartened by the office declined coaches and both these guys and I haven't talked to them.

But I know that because of that the retirement policy and I'm I'm not familiar with the camera not. There -- being forced to retire in order to get. Whatever they're supposed to get and I get that they continue to coach that this would not be dictate that I again I don't know the details but.

But both these guys are out any coaches and and and I apple I it's my understanding is that gonna come back possibly as consultants which I. That that seems to me like a crazy situation because they've already named a new office seaport area and it neuropathy Blanco can now for.

Atomic power who has been the opposite coordinator for eleven years.

And and that and the likely to come back as a consultant I think this could create a problem with in the staff that. I don't know I mean I don't need -- are dedicated coaches there they're outstanding coach and I don't think they want to retire and I think they'd like to continue to coach and make it like to continue to coach with the colts because they know other ticket situation there. But the great quarterback and a good team and a winning team felt. I don't know what's going to happen it's gonna be if you'd find out.

One of the other big stories has been Michaels making his name has actually been tied by some home to the patriots may be as a back up. The Tom Brady do you believe that Michael Vick will be allowed to play in the NFL this season.

It's my feeling that he will be and I don't have any inside information. It did to back that up it's just step is just a feeling that I think that he will be reinstated. And I think that somebody.

At some point whether it's before this even starts or during the season.

Will give this guy a chance and I think he deserves the chance our parity -- I mean he is screwed up the immediate made major. Errors and and and broke a -- and yet he has stated. Is -- Process to do it and you know once once -- got -- I think he I think he deserves this chance he'd he'd have a paktia you know I got the normal little bacon when when -- was coach in the the falcons and that. I don't think he's a good Arab. Apparent stir up bomber in anger that they and he made some stupid choices in in any safety and the price in. I think he deserves another chance and I think thumping of in the chain.

I will they did my my theory and you obviously know more about this -- because you actually worked in the NFL I just I just -- guys who work in the NFL but. If I was Michael Vick I would want to go to a team like the patriots and be a back up in China. Be a good guy and not play that much as opposed to -- of to a bottom feeder team where you're gonna go out and get beat up and only win four games do you do agree with that there -- you care.

I agree that I mean I think anybody would rather go to a good team we're going to be successful. I don't think people are going to necessarily.

Sign him to -- starter to be eight full time starter quarterback warm I think I think they might. The system because he would be awesome domestic impact air liken it tailback position. Snapping the ball but it asset let him run I think somebody don't want to do the what right now wildcats up. I think they'd they'd they'd want Michael want on their team and I and I think think they'd say what is this guy's gonna commit to be our starter it's certainly.
