Welcome back Dennis and Callahan joining us on the eighteenth the outline your world liver Arafat operate -- a size and long time no talk. Diego could talk to get back trap me on. How's your RT -- a lot of extra time on the weekend to catch up on sleep.
Try to get a play but split up but does it never dull moment down here as you could well magic does Johan Santana belt bowl and A rods. I aid fraud may Roy and now he's got a hip issue with the assistance. I mean it just never a dull moment down there.
I'm outlast them again this is to us that Roger Clemens -- Toronto Roger Clemens what causes those hips is that.
I don't know man. And you know you're there you're just as good as mine are.
It's not get backed Iran and the rest of the craziness going -- a New York but it's all about a judo and fewer years with us. Of -- and now. -- adequately what were your expectations of what the Patriots would get from Matt Cassel -- for the deal took place --
You are taught that they would they would have received more and in return and I you know I no hard second round draft pick -- It's really inexpensive first round and then when you start looking at -- did you realize. That they -- out of clear a lot of cap space factor they -- just cut -- Mike -- bought the big give him a favor. To be honest with you because traded him to. Now he'll get his. Is million dollar he get a million dollar roster bonus. I think he's going to analyze and just thank you you're setting yourself okay what was there's something going on here between pioli -- check or. What they're really -- reason why Belichick did did did it this way then I guess you could. You could argue both sides of -- five cents says is that Matt Cassel arm but. So sure everybody in a fellow -- that you know he obviously had a great year played really well down the stretch. I was not a great team did great offensive players be interesting to see if he can pull -- In Kansas City and I guess a good deal was one where both sides are somewhat unhappy would.
Do argue embracing the oh he might be Scott Mitchell theory over.
No I don't think start to keep that in Scott Mitchell on my got to meet the you know he played some big games he'd be played really well I mean. They've really did lose that much of would be what -- got into the this system started plan you know. On a daily basis side you know Scott Mitchell -- it was a flash depend. I think that Bob -- capsules going to do really well I like the fact that these team without Todd Haley Titel is going to be an aggressive offer the play called much like Josh mcdaniels was. And you know the extent far out of all of us is what's going on that right now -- You know I just think that when you really analyze it wearing a cap space. Doing Mike Vrabel favored that's what looks like may. I guess Bill Belichick got out of it what you wanted.
What what is your take on the on the Denver mess it seems to me that just beat Kansas is starting off kind of like -- Lane Kiffin down in Tennessee and team. And mistake he could possibly make he's made will he. I have trouble mending fences with -- quarterback who Jay Cutler we says he's not trading period flat out he is not going to trade him so they have to learn to live together will that be tough.
Well you know that they guy you know Josh they're really didn't do much talking when he was there. You know knowing one -- and now all of a sudden. He's thrust right in the middle of everything and he's got to be -- at -- gotten an answer all these questions. I would say this that column. He's got a -- expenses that are going to be an easy thing to do but I also was Belichick -- but. -- would be a big man about this you have indignity into the playoffs -- losing record I don't care -- stronger than John Elway -- Giambi said that. He has all -- you -- get a drop you gotta you gotta be an adult about -- and realize. It's a business -- and the teams are going to have to do whatever they think is necessary in order to get them to be better. Denver explores a trade then you know they're doing their due diligence you -- get over the unfortunate. That Josh got himself into this situation but you know want. The reality is that if the kid plays good and they go to the playoffs he'll be compensated sports so he's not gone anywhere now Arnold thing.
Obviously lies in the face of the Scott Mitchell there when you know Josh mcdaniels would unload his probable quarterback for a chance to bring him. Matt Cassel and and also Scott pioli who knows him well. His first in line when they put him. On the trading block. So these guys who know castle like him. Would you rather if you would you choice whom we knew it -- next Q would you rather have Matthew Stafford Mark Sanchez Matt Cassel.
I'd rather have Matt Cassel because he's proven commodity at notre yet it I've met Matt Stafford not also Matt Sanchez. -- really good guys. And I figure they're both going to be good players not about they'll be great players they seem to really have the acumen or written. The saying all the right things and I like both of them you never know about them until we get on the field. But I would want to have Matt -- more than that you usually see. In free agency as were going through right now is all the new coaches want players that they have coached. They can help them implement their particular system so Josh mcdaniels is bound to going to be on the -- but the plays out there in Denver. -- would much rather have Matt Cassel because he could talk them. He didn't have to teach him the system all over again. And they're going to have to teach Jake -- this system is going to have. Become off fluent in the language and that's not an easy task as we found that with Brett Favre down here last year. And any quarterback because from one system to another. It's. It's going to be and it's going to be tough times -- so I can understand completely. A -- Josh mcdaniels and Scott pioli Balt would want Matt Cassel because sixty complied you know he's a proven commodity and certainly feel very comfortable with his ability.
Ultimately -- do you think there might be a silver lining albeit a small one out in Denver with the theory that Jay Cutler who said he was blind sided by Elvis when he says he's blind sided that means he thought his job -- you thought there was nobody debuted -- having more than he which means to me he's comfortable in the role. That the that the ultimate silver lining here is that that the the young Josh mcdaniels has perhaps with a fire under his complacent quarterback.
The other communicate to -- they're always gulf war guys. -- don't have to worry about losing their jobs being traded that's Peyton Manning Tom Brady Ben Roethlisberger and Drew Brees and everybody else. -- on the trading block if you committed to batter that just the way it is in the NFL and you know you have to get to a certain level I think to enjoy the security -- not worried about being traded in. NFL and and very few players ever attend a little LaDainian Tomlinson going through right now look what Freddie Taylor. -- when -- went through Jacksonville -- the business first and you have to do whatever you can to motivate -- players. And I think there is something that de facto effort -- color because again like I said earlier you know hasn't been a playoff quarterback he had -- you know he's been more. Inconsistent than anything else and maybe that was a little bit of the diabetes. A working against them by the previous two or three years and now they get that done -- on the control acquittal of the better this year. But definitely underlying. I think all of this is probably motivating in the play better.
Well he's 24 and 27 in two plus seasons in Denver so that's those are pretty much all you need to know of the following two scenarios -- which one makes more sense to you if if any at all it in terms of trying to read bill Belichick's mind. Matt Cassel would be less dangerous to the Patriots in Kansas City that he would be would Josh mcdaniels in Denver or. I'd like to do a favor for pioli beetle like the word favor maintain a relationship for drafted negotiation and deals down the road.
Well I thought I had Arnott didn't I don't think Bill Belichick. It that way guys I think he just thinks I'll want to get the best deal that makes the most sense for us. Are you another cap situation obviously that's something to do what those. By -- by it may maybe they said do then brought and I don't know that they could that it never look -- trade Q. Back out but you have to take my Mike Vrabel with them. And they about it but no we don't want Mike Vrabel -- would want to pay him the money that he's -- that would. Inflate our salary cap or maybe Scott pioli said -- I can I can absorb Mike Vrabel he's been a great guys great. Part of his successor and went on and -- reward him. Again I a yacht but they -- probably just cut Mike Vrabel and in. Traded Matt Cassel still had the same situation. All work itself out but I guess that wasn't in the cards for some reason you like. You know Dave they all did the right thing by Mike Vrabel which is in my estimation. Something else he burial so maybe maybe that was a big part of this whole.
The thing that took the New England fans by surprise more than anything boom was that was the Vrabel deal which kind of happened before the -- deal. Nobody knew he was washed up. Until Belichick -- is kinda. Room in this deal. And no one had that sense that he was going to be cut.
And commented as though it is not the same appoint. His career that Willie McGinest was 11 against with a -- to leave for Cleveland.
But will it was free agent and and Vrabel.
But but WR they didn't fight for -- and and -- there about twelve years you know it's almost same time -- And and what they have I was status about it being -- the other aspect of it okay business first understand that. You have to make a lot of very difficult. And decisions about long time players that have been. In one place. And had great success while they've been there and you know those decisions are really hard to make -- a month and that. You know that that would McGinest go and and Mike Vrabel go without a great deal bought. And trying to figure out how they get younger and faster on the pants. While actually using Matt Cassel I think -- the -- to do that so. Maybe maybe Indian in the long -- this is going to be the best thing that ever happened to doing.
who's going to play quarterback for the Jets you know Matt Cassel would have been a perfect guy who.
Obviously Bill Belichick accepted the Jets right now nobody knows I think me Kellen Clemens. It's probably -- leader in the club out just by virtue of the fact that he played them. In the NFL. Nobody knows the -- after Byron Leftwich or Jeff Garcia are brings some sort of veteran presence in here. Just the case so they you know they've they have from the fall back on and who knows if they draft want to be young quarterbacks so. They're deeper -- we are better we all knew that when Rex Ryan got here and certainly they've. They can greats stepped before plywood over the -- party -- Jim wondered been too. Marquee players became mop from Baltimore with Rex Ryan. But I still -- offense right now looks like you know in the an average like 1517 points -- which is -- when Berman and instantly.
you impressed when you heard that Rex Ryan was like standing in. Bart Scott's drive way at midnight is always at kinda grumbling.
You know how did not about the ability or whatever -- You on this case of what you're trying to. It helped lead with a got to come to New York which view you know they've got a lot of reasons they Baltimore they have a good team that got a good young quarterback. Finally they're going to turn the corner our offense too late and he's finally did you know he decides to leave. You've got a good manager of the guided you know you really want him though and you know they have a very special relationship because he wasn't deeper into court and players tend to be close to their coordinators and head coaches that didn't surprise me.
I thought the dozen pink roses was a little.
On the -- out of -- art Scott want. And broke a table with the addition of Julius Peppers to the doing the Patriots roster a change the balance of power in the AFC east about the entire AFC.
Well if he's motivated me and you lived up to the contract demand that he wants. I'd say wow a -- would be unbelievable to see something like that happen. You're just adding. Another player to the mix on the other side away from Richard Seymour that I think would be just that phenomenal pass rushing. 2 and fortify that the current one which is then. One oddity that it that the winds in football and so we've been happy all of a younger at all but faster and you know on the back and there's no question about that and you know they're they're defenses always been good. But what would really truly make it great is it. The addition of a tremendous cap structure which is Julius Peppers can live up to the billing it live up to his reputation. Would give New England just that it tickets when the trade for.
Attitude only is not physically has Jason Taylor checked out of the NFL.
Not -- so I'd -- go lot of teams really still want them I think he's going to be okay. I'm he's not an eight million dollar a year -- at -- But that I could see a team like Tampa Bay had that kind of retool themselves down there. Go after him and I could become want to play in Florida but you know I think he's happy to be at Washington DC you don't we have.
And -- it going here so we boomer but I got a note on its safe to say the Yankees opened at home. What would they run get cheered booed somewhere between.
I think there would be 80% of fans to cheer about that I really honestly believe that. I -- go with the Joe Torre book guys in the whole era brought it -- references in that book. Combined with the eight Roy -- references that came out since the book that was published. It's going to be really operative on the road especially at places like Boston and over the that is going to be emerged was so. I think it's -- they're very adjusting you're watching him watching the body language. And you know -- whether or not he can put up with all the the outside influences that are now but obviously negatively impact.
Him yet -- that they'd be my final question your guesstimate -- based on the steroids scandal the PR forces that he's assembled the cyst the World Baseball Classic all that will -- having sub standard season a statistically a pretty much and on par seasons statistically or something off the charts good.
I think the -- the addition of Mark Teixeira. And I think that -- can I was going to have a better year and I -- healthy or hit the spot. Really beat me to believe that he's going to have a figure out how to have a great year but I still think you'll update very good year. I could see it out somewhere between 35 and forty home runs about a 11525. RBIs assuming he -- help they. But I'll play a lot it will be. Albeit -- and every city he goes -- once you leave New York on.
You know nothing matters until October -- what what what are you expecting April or whenever this may whenever the Selena Roberts book comes out you hearing. That this going to be a bombshell when there.
Not we're here at all kind of a lot of rumors and all the others of the -- they'll tell yeah Yankees going to be better simply because in the pitching depth in the pitching staff from. He -- about the AJ Burnett. Two helping Chien-Ming Wong Joba Chamberlain and enough. For starters going to be Andy Pettitte and that's pretty damn good starting rotation that they're healthy they're going to be. --
Yeah -- Hank Steinbrenner is spot about this but he could defuse this entire eight rod storm. But to bring in Barry Bonds at -- after important that it affects everything already were cornerback Roger Clemons again you got.
That's exactly right take pick take the ball playoff a it brought back but I just think it's gonna -- fascinating year watching them. Navigate his way wrote that are going to be any easier by any stretch of the imagination but I do you think you'll have a Goodyear -- Yankees going to be tough to beat as as much of that pains me to say in I think they're going to be -- really -- this year.
