I'm doing great that you guys there are very well might as well as the Chiefs apparently -- excitement it is to have right now it looked up field -- coming out there.

You know Joe let me ask you a few things here because in New England I think people are disappointed that Scott pioli. Is leaving. In Kansas City is this playing out as the Chiefs could have done better the Chiefs hit a home run that got the number one guy and NFL is that the story in the in the city.

Absolutely -- my it's absolutely the story here everything that's all. It's all adequate water country you guys heard about you know collapsed home game people holding up signs we want pioli and you know people -- chest. That there really really excited -- about the all the and then obviously any connection. To the Patriots all the success they've had. It is part of it but I think it's also part the other. Carl Peterson with the general manager here for the last forty years and and it has just become so stale and and everybody was just pretty much stick of sick of the situation event and I think the Pistons. You know this is pretty much -- holiday intensity did that not only. Get a new GM but -- get somebody who I think is probably everybody would call apprised of this offseason.

Are they going to be okay with at the same time losing. Herm Edwards and Gunther Cunningham and all those guys.

Yeah I'd I'd I think that's probably part of the holiday here to be -- we honestly -- think. People. People really never. They never really embraced her -- here and it's -- which has James I think terms of bird -- could coach and and and I I have the highest regard formed by. You know. He came in after after some disappointing got seasons for the cheers for the under different meal and and call Peterson have been -- act I don't nobody ever got a chance here and and that of course he he went to the full rebuilding mode this year and took all the lumps and you know whoever the next coach is assuming that's what happens is going to. Really reap a lot of -- applicable to what comment --

What Joe explained this to me because we we had a debate earlier this we got down idea about Herm Edwards. My point is I don't think he's a great coach but I don't think he's that bad when he and I think he's a bad. Tell me if he came and he took over a team that was aging got into the playoffs are -- seven. Had some injuries at the quarterback position. They tanked that year and then they decide to be bad. Tell me why people are down on him if they knew coming into this season. At best you're going to win five or six games and that's the best case scenario.

I'd you know I'd I'd I'd have to sell more underside of estrangement and I would imagine that you would gore. I think that we do when you look at this team and the situation he came into -- really really came to a bad situation not only with the team. Aging. Losses quarterback you know forty minutes it was first game. I -- don't really really unrealistic expectations about that team and I think it. There are that would best coaching. Including majors with the Jets was that first you've achieved getting that team to the playoffs with a backup quarterback and a and a you know -- up at the line that was pretty much. Old -- the -- you typical stop anybody. To get back in the -- and really protect the job and then then quickly -- bell -- last year then you're right they. They went into this you know what brought wide open does to what we're going to do we're gonna we're going to go rebuild. I get up an -- ballot that surprised you pay and then I I I cannot America's cup field is going to come in here and and then stick with her medal or punctures the -- guy in here and he's got a lot of starts and scratch and I don't know what you know big guy he he knows what situation as an uphill battle wound up through the -- the speak.

Well let's talk about who that next guy will be we've seen names floated like. By Kirk parents we've seen Steve -- analyst's name floated we've seen Jim Schwartz name floated but that. Doesn't make much sense to me what's your read.

Well I I think you're exactly right -- Jim -- at all but that's going to be the situation from put everything I can gather. You know prepared keeps coming up that demanded that -- I think it's coming up I don't think. You have to really got that much success about it I mean it I I really. Yeah I know there's there's a history there was seven pioli and and that the you'd better suited as a basketball guy but really have to sort of -- And early you know some early success Iowa it's been a real struggle last couple years and and I'm just not sure that that would like people I think. You that they'll make a lot stance and then. You know that he he was for whatever reason sort of a hot candidate that that nobody seems -- Especially interested in now and -- at bat that got an accent but I'm really interest that I mean today is that day that that stopped you know. And then -- a press conference and introduce himself and you know that I think this will be our first chance to get a real real on what he's thinking about.

I laughed out loud. And aligning your column today you've got a lot less pretentious around here the -- Carl Peterson leapt out I'd want to explain it to -- Joe did. Call himself king Carl which is really protected or it was that something you guys a moniker of the game their --

Valid that was our soldiers -- ox. Read on what can call what you call off the president CEO and general manager of the Chiefs in the end Natalie -- that is title that he. He was never hesitant to remind people -- that was his title he. Call that a lot of good things here by it but certainly being get. Modest and then sort of put behind the scenes would not want to but he was very much up front used it is pretty. You know -- the -- Americans come march over the last few years you're pretty arrogant about how things. And that -- and it came in the and it sure seems to me that. That the only guy who. Who doesn't have a whole lot of that on -- I think he's so. He's he's probably a lot like culture committees. He's a quiet series birdies there is -- guy -- works behind the scenes and you know isn't isn't wearing you know. Cashmere coat down on the side park like just like call for the laws -- he definitely seemed like he's going to be. Much more -- of a guy that -- but I think he image that -- that incident probably want to produce you know.

When -- pros and cons with the Kansas City Chiefs and in terms of the roster. The pros list it's pretty short I got Glenn Dorsey on that -- that got Dwayne -- on that list if Tony Gonzales comes back he's a -- and -- happy. I feel free agent or -- have a -- Okay so Tony Gonzales is on that list I might put Tyler they've been on there may be. But we're on the cons list literally literally got Larry Johnson's and that you know what do you do. What was what is Scott pioli have in front of them in terms of this roster in some decisions that he estimate with some of these cut.

Well I I think that they do have some young players that that the -- promise and I think that this is the secondary. They they had a couple of rookies Specter of the children promise that got up. A couple of young guys now that the line that. That that are -- proud parents and young players but you're you're absolutely right that the that the problem was that -- whole lot longer than the -- And then not only become a lot longer than a lot of -- just don't know. What the situation and Tony Gonzales has made it very clear that. If if they change coach Houston and then went back into rebuilding mode you really didn't want to come back. Their adopted asthmatic but no matter what -- you don't want to come back. I would pick as sort of pet and our season worried he. Still despite the promise but I don't think anybody really knows -- or believes that that he's the quarterback of the future so. You know it it. It would -- he's still think you know situation that is that is certainly unsettled and certainly has. A lot of cons but. On the cold side declining concluded that you know there are thirty million dollars under the yes salary cap they got monitors that they have no. We year old long term spotted -- that figured -- And and really you know these you. You got that. A virtually new stadium that that they're going to play here you know they've they've bumped through this huge renovation so that's really -- situation he's got a great football out of -- distance. Does that sound of the just dying to get excited about sheep so. There are a lot of stroke here and it certainly dropped pass and that's that's the other thing to get everybody excited here's -- what the Dolphins. You -- up as it turned around a one year I think people. People are open of that here.

Changing gears a little bit same church different -- you -- written a piece in this week's Sports Illustrated. Talking about the the coaching carousel at Boston College which got wrapped up yesterday with franks as the -- being named as the new head coach. And and if I if I tried to bumper sticker your peace it would basically be a pox on all their houses.

Yeah out yeah I'd I think side I just you know it is certain stories from a lot of -- you guys talk. A lot about that but certain sort formal law but I think. Just kind of depressed me you know the Cubs sport snapple Boston College stories that. Just depressed that it -- that that apparently water out the athletic director that that you know fired up for talk you know another team and did you talk with the absence. Yeah it it just sort of slide for me what is I think pretty depressing about college sports right now which is there's all like -- coach -- You're looking into the dollar in the nobody really staying in one place and then you know what is it. It it seems who got away from from the message and I don't want you -- I think we all know college sports have never been particularly. Collegial and it's been it's been talked. You know what you book back if he's six -- hundred years you know but. But I think lately with that would be used contract so they're putting up just. It just kind of it is just one of those boards for me goes a little bit of a doubt our inside a lot of people actually call a public division two guys. You have two division two coaches who have been at their schools for more than a century and then we just held up a little deeper level of happiness. You know let that cook university at Carson-Newman. In Tennessee if not a little you know different level of happiness ends overlook it altered to. That I feel like yet but I I think we all wish college football -- what to look up to.

Do you think you could have found anybody individual honor is that impossible.

Well I hit noted that it bought into the kind -- stuck around that they're older fusion and and I think everybody would we talked about about the Florida State guard -- pot to attend stayed in and have been -- up to long you know did it but a lot -- that struck me about this and as I thought about more more everybody kind of not everybody but I think that it took it easy to do what the coaches. But really all that much to talk to -- minutes earlier this utility thing for me and the school's gotta win the you got to win now you gotta you gotta nobody's really you know everybody talks about well athletic and academic all that but nobody really seemed to. You know people co Q who you know keep getting academic all Americans out there -- that you got away and it's it's there's too much pressure on big money especially in in football which seems to support so many other programs. You know it it's. It it is definitely be column. Even more than it ever was those sort of professional atmosphere and -- a -- I'm in I think that in addition the cost of what cal -- a little bit of but what made it great.

You're on -- radio station in Boston so you know this is common. Why did you want to put Jim rice and I definitely.

I know that was coming. And her he would respectfully disagree with. I -- and I would get I would say that you know what I what I. -- wasn't what I can walk to mark small lead because now that he's an all have a very happy for family. You most certainly have a prominent player might of my idea but childhood and in a guy that I that I at tremendous admiration for. I -- going to repeat Celtic people -- in the block that there are a lot of reasons but -- vote for Jim rice and then the other ball. You know that there's the -- in his career in the number and and how much it is whose career you know offensive. Numbers were were really related to that in place at Fenway Park at all that sort of thing -- pop up. I'm very big fan of -- what happens -- I've never understood what -- Evans didn't get. More -- into consideration but I think that the guy who is rear bumpers they're. Quite there was Jim rice and of course -- great outfielder and then you walk some things that that Jim rice didn't offer so. You know I have mixed emotions about it in there you know to the top involving. On a ball then we took a lot of players like. Really really law. Would have liked us all feel quite walk that line and Jim rice was just one of those --

Well hey guys ever gotten like really believe. You can you can -- it was one of the twenty greatest players based orchestra but I ethic he's he's light up Barrett. -- it. Altman between voting is a whole other animal and and lot of people in the ball so called political reasons and and that you but I -- think that's a shame by the -- to be put on to become even more upset about the five or older so people would invoke Tim Raines -- It was a great great player and then you know right there and Rickey Henderson's category of and -- it was it was definitely restraints you would vote.

You have the line not to long ago on in what are your blog piece reassess those people are forever more. Going to have to say I never voted for Rickey Henderson for the hall I.

Yeah and -- I don't know how much pride in tech and then it would go to the same people you know 23 people involved Willie Mays and -- the people involved Erstad New York Hank Aaron at the united I don't know argue. How would you feel yourself. You know twenty years later would you can tell people got involved to Willie Mays and I I think Rickey Henderson is right back category.
