While these final chapter or should -- chapters of this Boston College soap opera have yet to play out. And probably will start to do so late this morning when jags Hinske takes his interview. And takes a number like a guy and a baker with a New York Jets are all line and up well to talk to the wood. Man could be look at you know and a consistent offensive line coach. Quarterback coach she's going to need work. While he's while he's chapters of this drama unfold today and tomorrow and the day after that we don't have a lot of interest yet but I think I have some answers. Based on a couple of observations a couple of emails and a couple phone calls last night and maybe get wrong about this but here's my ticket -- about the -- in the Boston Herald. Bob Ryan writes extensively in the Boston Globe and -- question about when people say that for a bit later. Here's my take on this and slap in the head if you think I'm dead wrong here is what this is all about and it would have the and it's just a timeline of when and why why is going to do it but he thinks she's not going to get the job blah blah but here I think I know to be true about this. This entire -- as Hinske Boston College people people story is not about. Contractual obligations. It's not about legal loopholes it's not about iron clad clauses in contracts. This is about in my estimation saying one thing and doing another. Promising certain things and in two years doing just the opposite and I think maybe most importantly this is about looking a man in the EI. Shaking his hand and lying through your -- to that particular man that's and this whole.
I'd just ignition an explosion at the heights as well no -- you and the one you offered to slap you because you knew you had it right and I can't I can't -- anyway anyway. -- there's no question. His is my question people like. Like Bob Ryan who wants to look at it from -- Gusinsky's. You can. What would you do what would you do if you hired to scout you took a chance when on the limb hired this guy yeah. He promised that he was your guy -- you you knew it was going to be lifer right but you're expected a real commitment to our commitment it's all in longer than two years. And did you find out through back channels sources that he's flirting with the Jets. You know you do you'd react. If you like emotionally human like human being and you would be upset. You would be. Feel betrayed and that's what people -- did I applaud him I would do the same thing. I -- the -- patient disease that I'd say what I'd plucked two out of nowhere it. I gave me this job I gave you -- raise I gave you everything you asked for and how your I have to find out through. From other people that you -- with Woody job and.
Trails a very good board and maybe -- house to -- tough at the outset but that's exactly what does it but I will say this is what's that -- league ballpark. Most athletic directors -- by having this conversation all the time you know why we couldn't be a general manager for a particular team well for a million reasons we don't have the the the sports acumen to be able to evaluate talent all those sort of things but we couldn't swallow. All the crap. The Theo has to swallow when he looks Scott Boras in the guy with couldn't swallow all the crap and athletic directors -- have to deal with the likes of nick -- and all those kind of you notes wore me. Stevie we easily kind of people we don't have the patience for that. But it what most athletic directors and certainly most general managers do. -- deeply ball doesn't happening -- that's apparently.
I'm sure he's so. -- Struggling saying Nationalists wall this could do what the -- director where you name rule Iowa State I wouldn't. Bum she is sick after two years in five wins bails on them and just well we're moving on. I couldn't I was -- in this yesterday in the talk people I mean it's it's hard for him to do it's hard for him to. Contain restrain themselves from this angle and and tell. The wait was well I think those guys. Kaczynski gave him a promise shook his hand active for the up -- I'm your guy. I mean again deep sleep on never thought he was going to be Joe Paterno wasn't expecting to be his head coach for the next four years. But two years is not enough and and -- become that she needed you know that we says well -- like that like what I mean even. As a point even Dan Henning was the longer than -- it's two years by any stand up and have someone call and tell me that. He game and gave me his full commitment and and that's that's all you can expect to what -- trying to -- off everybody does it's the everybody does that they do not by the way they do how many years with Saban in LSU. -- on. With Nick Saban is a little carpet -- mercenary. Two years is just not enough I mean two years is. To me two years means you lied you lied because there's no way. -- looked edgy in the lancet a give at least two years you know he says I'll be here for five. I think a -- for five. No I'll see -- you -- you -- and years and and when did you ever think your guy if he promises Tuesday QBs are missile is going to be gone two year if you just dealt. I mean I don't think we're -- in this through people defending to execute and that's what coaches do. I think -- just reacting. Because you you've seen a lot of coaches bail on programs rarely did they bail after two year.
Bob Ryan writes today did -- painfully below 82 decades veteran of big time athletic world. Really think the just because Jack is Hinske smiled shook hands and sign that five year contract. Thereby pledging fidelity the BC you're automatically a moderate. What to question mark Jack is Hinske. Had just come from eight years with the big boys did -- painfully ball really think coach jags had gotten the NFL out of his system. Most coaches believe that when that time comes to leave is simply acting aggressor you shoot first and you ask questions that.
That's that's flawed so many ways it's not the time to leave the Jets going to hire him at least not as head coach so this is not. A guy who has I mean even cystic. That bomb. Auburn is it once in lifetime opportunity for him healthy stated that statement the report if I would. Probably be -- way we live we -- everybody you know you know you're too he had his chance he knew who defeated strike that was. He was going to be outside on the outside looking in the jags -- proved that he can coach hee young viable and in. It will be other opportunities and he's comin' back with they pretty good team correct me. -- While it's hot and an an and that's not the case hell what my next question what's he going to do. He's going to be an assistant at some NFL -- it as if it retirement -- hired as an assistant with that the guy who ends up being the head coach -- I'm -- he's got plenty connections with the Packers that with the Falcons he knows a lot of coaching tree and he'll get a job he'll make less money next year coats and as the assist in the NFL he does now BC. And I I don't know what the meet Russia right one of the recruit in the -- my mindset. But he's going to. Those five kids and his wife and -- are -- back to green bag and -- Atlanta. New York who knows the Seattle. A couple minutes they're not mean it's rare for a guy. Makes that commitment for five years. And and and tells everybody not just the coach well I mean not just Ph.D. by way but the all the recruits and all the players. And all the assistants all everybody that he told Newsday. And two years later he's. Fullerton with the Jets hoping to get the Jets job to the point where. Deeply posts that you go to that interview you know you can just forget about this job I'm going anywhere yeah I mean in and other sports I quit I'm gone I'm -- it.
It doesn't this approach by Jean Beasley -- set geno aside as different then most. Athletic directors me parents say singular would not most of its -- said. Well there's not much you can do here at heatley and just details yet -- and as so it's easier -- said that he got a number.
Calls and emails or text from. Other -- applauding him and understandably so all. Would like to do this. Well liked to tell these guys to screw you sign the contract right -- and into right spots to signing the contract. It's if you -- theater you know. He batted ten years in the contract in -- though he flip boats I know you always want to go back in FL. Here two years two years. Again the guys he recruited his his recruits. Freshman. You know redshirt freshman. And it's not a commitment.
Every coach and I was on the routes on this program and and and what are what are they doing when they go on in this house for -- can spend this. How is spinners are yeah everything's I easier recruit yeah -- recruiters assess how do you. About yourself sitting in front of the camera analysis at what about your head coach don't know the Jets. What -- amen amen -- and we don't know well it's private beautiful limited to a year where he's -- he's trying to get -- like today that they'll be should be done. And Neal avenue who thinks. With thanks but the problem is it creates so much turmoil at this murky haze over the program right now. No -- cup is no question but I think we've already established it to magazines he doesn't care about the program now which is switches. Shocked. To shock you really shocked yes because I -- too and I don't know.
All you know I don't know well I think I understand I think I understand how genes changed his opinion of this guy because he looked him in the guy he shook his hand you made a commitment and not necessarily you know binding legally but man -- man I'd hi I'm going to do this he lied to him change his mind and and -- lied to him in in the last few days -- I'm really not being. Courted by the New York Jets when in fact he was to understand how genes perspective of his head coach not a change what I like to know at some point find out how did Jack Gusinsky's perspective. -- taking this job coming to Boston working at Boston cult. By the way being you know more than mildly successful change what we about the jags as you say. This ain't my cup -- it's a good question I.
And able to find that out and I don't know -- but you meter but. When did.
No no was no. Every the line I always heard from him love BC of the kids -- would do. He told -- interview with -- Austin called with the with the Jets he told reporters note note that forget about that apparently at least in some. Areas he's very good line. He's very good Aaliyah I think well I'll go out.
In his defense -- here this and that just bugs me you know all coaches that away -- five I mean Dan Henning was a disaster you're young in for three years. A couple of state of 69. And O'Brien for nine I mean these guys like -- trio. These guys -- Petrino is a good one again but that's a rarity that's all coaches I think it's unfair you. All coaches to say all coaches look you in the -- when you get this opportunity look in the Sam Stan I'm with you look tell hundred recruits. And kids and players I'm with the and then and then turn around and and trying to. Make his way out of town and I think it's rare. At the I think he showed -- and stunning ability. To look in the and lie and again not just deeply. Every kid who played for that team every Q was gonna who was planning a -- that team next year.
All right I need some clarification here two paragraphs and Bob Ryan's piece in the Boston Globe -- number one please only witness. Jeff jackets and -- has no legal right. To interview with anyone. Absent -- people people's permission. To start that one's sense and he has no legal right to interview with anyone. It's been established that clause does not exist does not exist does not exist NASA says you may not until three years have passed interview with any on any other NFL team. Yet Ryan rights to exit -- the legal right interview with anyone -- people people permission. That goes on to say and and and this I don't penalties being tongue in cheek that'll be being sarcastic or animal feature writing this straight to help me out Jerry and and meter. As much catching people people. Hold the legal and ethical advantage here the coaching question comes off as the one deserving sympathy. Because after all isn't he just trying to better himself we've all heard that one already. Anybody help -- sympathy. I but yeah computers is the last line at that we've all heard that one already that's like saying. I we've heard that crap -- yet he seems to -- and it bit that he believes this to be true. That the coach in question comes off. As the one deserving sympathy because after all isn't he -- and he just trying to.
I hate to sound corny but what that one about integrity of honesty is that irrelevant what a -- Took the job and a week later called budget yeah or monthly OK to start rebellious right at the at some point. You have to hold a guide to his word. And I know the jags his game again want to go back the NFL someday. But two years is not and hopefully and -- and again one years enough right so so years. It's just not what he not. When he signed on for now when he committed to not what people people understood. He was going to get from the guy he lied.
If the NFL DNA. Is so ingrained in Jack Gusinsky and that this lord just call back to -- Ryan points out the big boy league. Was so strong that he knew at some point he had to go back there a smart thing to have done if you're Jack Gusinsky knowing you're not going to get the Jets job. Is to let reporters break the story of other people find out about it and lighted -- Fleetboston on not talking in the Jets with a smarter more prudent more. Would be to step out of -- some points it was in. Just gave me -- call about it should go on now but at some point I I want to go collect talked about you know my problems here that I don't like recruiting are not happy with this the largest if not the right fit for me. You know one more year here or make some sort of arrangement where you look the guy in the guy and for once out of the -- hello what you think it would have been easy to grind and -- and -- opposite a lot of fire you know.
You don't even need the -- you could go on to the mass media. And said listen. Somebody told some hitless in the Jets want to talk to me in the view but I'm committed to BC maybe someday right. You name -- out there one is reminded pitcher and Phil guy who's been on yet so we'll look and you look like Q are committed you the magnanimous you look like committed to Boston College. And even though the lower the NFL is there you can't do now because you're job is your work is not complete at BC works out great both ways. In you know why didn't like them want to be here which is remarkable media was blind sided by and he knows the guy he knows the program. I assume most people meter like you totally out of left completely blind side -- he obviously does not want to be here if he did. Any interest like I said he sees it he would I want when I wrote what you said what what's the obvious thing to do just say. I'm I'm I'm just not interest.
Right now stick it out for not there right now. Right now my work here is not complete and I think -- John you descend on the trucks in the matters one AD was quoted today ample options story and character in the in the globe. Making contact with the NFL. Not a big deal if you're -- happens all the time we deal that just as long as I know about it yeah. That's behind just tell me about it -- me for being blind -- because apparently the athletic director yeah closest to in the program was blind -- miles.
On the athletic director knew that even someday might go back via -- but he really. Spot the guy had integrity relief but the guy was a man of his word -- was going to give them much as he might have attempted. Taking abuse in and and pursue jobs was going to give him a commitment of at least three years if not four or five. Again Nick Saban how long and LSU I -- all of a Michigan State critics.
Stadium. Course it's -- in 95 -- and -- even -- say your ultimate mercenary. Goes for is of a -- five LSU -- the Miami Dolphins know one of that doesn't count cause the pros the pros and he -- to get back that -- fifth at neutralizing these -- for five but I mean you just don't do you just protect coaches. Even the most. Mercenary coach could sit here right now the guys -- which say now clearly takes his keys in the wrong and he didn't. Do when he promised to do here two years just.
Doesn't do what do jags feels when he picks up the paper this morning in New York Vegas sweepers interview later this morning. To read the Jets will interview cardinal offensive line coach Russ Grimm on Thursday. In Arizona. The Jets also received permission to speak the Baltimore defensive coordinator Rex Ryan. My guess is the jags is behind both of those guys that we get to any of the big game guys that are from float down the.
Cardinal the correct New York -- that New York reporters love and -- the only guys been crossed that the list grows and knows scour. And Mangini yes yeah the a F who else is -- still employed white -- reply message you -- maybe Detroit if you told me Kansas City if you told me that's not an opening up will be bank. If you told -- one of those type of job and it's okay can be ABC but this is the lottery here this is twelve candidates. This is I'm not I'm assuming that he has a good relationship of my tandem. I think he's going to get an honest well there's a star that I want to hitch my wagon and you know what even if he gets the -- that's a great -- coach that's chuckled. Right now I mean because you put on your common today -- new quarterback to kind of they donated more than be.
Does. You know it's remarkable that he's going to end up back in the NFL against -- is going to be an assistant yeah any of my problem when he beat the coordinate. -- line coach quarterbacks coach some got to -- corner. I don't know maybe may wish noticed that -- I'll pick up he hated it here yeah which means -- it's going to make a million dollars he'll make. Half a million maybe now three under him fifty maybe. Depending on what position what team would would would job he has taken a huge pay cut -- the Stanley leaving here. I don't know I don't get it he clearly hated it clearly just want it and we don't know why I mean I. I think it's a done deal I think he's gonna -- he's in he's fired. And and beyond that the big question is one YDT haters here.
Politics with the last line I have a question mark next to them while Bryant's piece it's the it's the it's the close the final paragraph assuming coach jags doesn't get the Jets job. What gene deep sleep on needs to do is kiss and make up with a coach. What.
That is not happening not happen not happen I think the -- it's skiers over. We're going to find out that it wouldn't try to find out -- correct who the next guy's going to beat us yes we think especially -- he's the favorite.
I grew into the on the club either prove to him at the Springfield of all to you I was on the defensive -- coach -- argument apart a little knowledge.
I mean that's a guy would beat Jean says that one guy who loves BC wants to be here clearly this -- and Dario if you. Then you're going to be contending next.
What happens is spasm on as the head coach in Vilma -- your defensive coordinator who's no linebackers picked Nelson they're -- very -- I think pick -- yeah. But -- picked because that is and I think Steve Logan goes if jags goes in the offensive coordinator might be -- days and up and comer.
