I let's be honest show fans. Both of you were able to raise your hands after your. Post holiday -- show of hands how many of you actually felt confident. That Brett Favre was going to do you any favorite -- and anybody and anybody anybody out there confidence probably as strong word -- But I I I don't know call me naive call me. Patriots employee all you want but. I thought the Jets had a reasonable shot that it was a a 5050 shot in the meadowlands yesterday I I still think the Jets have what talent. Maybe that ball at the other teams. But. There's no accounting which you know accounting and Jack collapse the coach -- and now there's no accounting for the collapse that really should of lost. The last five in a row we talked about it a little bit before we started the show and you know this is second time -- 67 years that you relied on -- 52 when -- game down the stretch to in the and just didn't work from the giving credit where credit is due department my idea my normal. -- partner Michael -- Has been beating this San Diego is going to win the AFC west I heard a couple weeks now. From the giving credit where credit is due department he nailed it yet then the nail on the head and and last night. I don't right now at Davidson customs. You know heading into the playoffs San Diego Indy after playing in four or five games Saturday. And as John Madden kept saying over and over Denver and looked like they wanted to compete so Michael hit that nail on the head. Unfortunately at the risk of tooting my own -- and I've been telling everybody who would listen for a couple weeks now. There was the very real possibility that eleven and five wasn't going to get -- I had I was zero bait yesterday in Jacksonville. I think that's a team that I -- on their coach several weeks ago I had no faith that to me and I had zero faith in the New York Jets not. As as I said to a friend yesterday it's as I was watching the game. I had hoped but I had no -- I think that's probably a good way to put and I feel the same way.

My my faith with the with the Jacksonville ball Liu was it was not so much a lack of faith in Jacksonville. I think Baltimore is a really really good football team and I think Joe Flacco people remember the first couple weeks it's kind of like Matt Cassel. People remember the first couple weeks where Flacco wasn't really doing a whole lot and they were running the ball and winning low scoring tight games. That's not the way they play anymore Aflac go. Went out and made plays against Dallas to win that game on the road despite the first half getting absolutely killed. By the pass -- he never ever gave in. Stood firm in the pocket knobs and it made two big runs late in the game. To salt it away but they had enough points to win because of Joe Flacco and it throws for 300 yards with a playoff berth on the line yesterday. He's he's a guy's not getting enough to have attention and credit for what they're doing. I agree with you wholeheartedly in the -- I -- hope is about Award I had hoped. That the Jets could finally right the ship but they didn't we will spend most of our time today talking about the Patriots in the end of the season and what's come in the future but. It is the whacking season. You know it it's started look -- well it started awhile ago and -- we you know we started to get things happening while ago. Yesterday you know Phil savage the GM of the Cleveland Browns got it today -- coach got. Old friend Romeo Crennel got fired within the last few minutes Eric Mangini fired. Rod Marinelli fired no surprise there. I don't care what temper tantrum Jerry Jones -- on Friday with a members of the media. Wade Phillips will not be the coach of that football team next year I don't see how we can't be I'm totally in agreement with you on this one. And now I just look at some of the comments that they were made after the Baltimore game they'll meet again after the Eagles game yesterday. It's not just TO who always is spouting off it's even Tony Romo was generally. A pretty classy guy win lose or draw. They're talking about a lack of adjustments a lack of preparation. That speaks to coaching and I can't imagine -- a week or so goes by in Jerry Jones doesn't -- the players talk about. Their lack of faith for lack of a better term in the coaches in the heat he stands pat with this is coach except wait too much talent Dallas to go nine and seven not be applied.

I think that I think that that changes is absolutely going to happen. I think singletary has earned himself. Taking the interim tag off of his off -- his post now they've got that that. That was officially and it turned it yeah I mean I think he's a nice job with the way that team has turned things around the last month and a half for so. I think that's probably good move now. They're going to bring your general manager and who may or may not like the coach cities and I have a 27 year old team president rod and now look -- it will be interesting to see what they do but there will be others. There will be other coaching changes made. I'm still convinced harm is out in Kansas City despite what. They've been saying to the contrary for a while now. We've been saying well for over a month now. That you're going to have somewhere between ten and thirteen coaching changes in the National Football League. And I think that's -- and the reason that it's. It's relevant to what were talking about here today is that I'm I'm reasonably certain that one of those new head coaches in the NFL will be Josh mcdaniels. Michael doesn't think he'll go I think -- ago.

Well I don't know Josh. Maybe not even as well as Michael that's I don't know if Michaels had that talks to them I know that he didn't feel comfortable last year. Didn't feel like he was ready didn't want to go in to a -- to the whole interview process I would be surprised. If he sat out again I think at the very least he's going to kick the tires and some of these opportunities. And I think. There are some dale but I think you're going to be reasonably attractive and and one of them may very well be Cleveland. I think that there's some. I think it's kind of a natural progression of what happened in Cleveland I think that that is a decent team I don't think it's four and twelve roster they've they went ten and six last year. It was that typical. Bad team that got good took a couple of steps back but it really tough schedule this year obviously Derek Anderson didn't work got to beat the going to handed over to Brady Quinn. So -- you have a a pretty good franchise pretty good organization. Good great fan base -- going to depend on who the G tennis and and decent a decent talent to work with if you can get -- at a GM who knows maybe. Scott pioli ends up being attacked him that's going to be the next question I'm going to ask Annika and they go to gathered all of a sudden you have. You have mcdaniels with a very comfortable. Personal situation with Scott. And I don't I think there are worse situations ago when as a first time coach and -- I think it's a great organization with a great tradition and -- in a good solid fan base.

Well then that leads me to the next question which is Scott pioli. Whose name gets brought up more than Josh mcdaniels does in this offseason and Cleveland's the team that -- more -- continues to well and it's where Scott wise yeah back when he and bill first became. Friendly in do you think of march a pyro the general manager the Indians in the relationship with the all AM and the connection back there. I think it may be the offseason where Scott pioli is a little more serious about looking at at other options now I will say this. I don't think it'll be New York. Even I like peace and -- gets fired and and supposedly tandem bomb is involved in the press conference with the owner Woody Johnson. Eric Mangini is not ball so it leads you to believe that cannon bomb has survive for the moment but many people thought that they were both going to go. If he went I don't -- pioli going there. That takes a nuclear bomb to the relationship. With Bill Belichick he could go -- Cleveland. I think they could still co exist then and and be friendly friendly rivals that sort of thing away Romeo Cornell was with. -- Bill Belichick I don't think you can go from here to New York and have that relationship survives.

It might be as simple as that might be -- but I also think there were some mistakes that mean -- made. That also helps -- like try to hire coaches on the plane ride home -- you know it just you know the you know that that's that -- on the that backstabbing that that didn't necessarily need to go on and and it if if they can get past it if pioli can get to a new job in not to you know. Sort of worked in that and that personnel rating kind of a situation but I think Derek fell into I think that you're right that -- keep -- get along. Just fine I don't know I haven't talked to Scott about this at all yeah obviously he's not. Take questions about you know as they're fighting for a playoff berth and whatnot. He's not taking any questions on that you know bill's gonna have a press conference in what an hour and a half for so now we're going to pick up at least part of it mean I would imagine some questions pertaining to the future is going to be brought up and I'm also you know imagine that we're not going to get a whole lot of information. -- regarding those questions but. -- Beatrice and see how the next I don't month or so on falter knowing.

I happen to agree with Mike Florio pro football -- dot com in this regard. I think Eric Mangini is unemployable. As head coach in the national football. And I agree with Florio's take on this and I'm going to reach a quote from what Florio wrote. -- 940 three's about half an hour ago when he wrote the following the word on the street in the wake of the spy gate fiasco 2007. Was that it was that few if any NFL teams would ever trust me in -- with family secrets. Given the reception slash reality. The -- blew the whistle on Patriots tactics Bromwich Mangini is career benefited. And about which he remained silent during his time and doing and uncles. I agree completely with Florio. If you're the owner of -- NFL franchise or general manager. You don't -- hire this guy. He is unemployable now as a head coach I mean I looked this up and really to add that right totally agree with that with US stance. And that people talked about this last year in you know in the wake of the spy gate scandal and as it. Sort of ran its course. And -- you know all the dust settled people started talking about it. Whether it was mean gene's fault or tandem bombs doing which a lot of people in the book actually point the finger at ten and bonds being the one who -- who really got the NFL involved. Mangini was still privy to it and obviously. Didn't do anything about it didn't handle himself well. Throughout I'd I think he's going to have a hard time finding an NFL owner. To sort of latch himself on to. A pariah like that I haven't addicted in you off the year before we start the show you would mention maybe coordinators job board. Maybe even heading to college going back to it via while I was in college -- coach but going to college to become head coach. I concede that perhaps. I mean at the college ranks of hired coaches -- the rest of eyes for crying out though so I could see that happening. I'll be curious because I wouldn't be a bit surprised the seat for instance Romeo Cornell and up back here not as the coordinator. I don't think that that bill would replace Dean Pees in that regard. -- remember that after the Cleveland fiasco. When Bill Belichick resurfaced with Bill Parcells wasn't its defensive coordinator. Was that assistant head coach back field coach and I said yes yeah yes absolutely already had Al groh is the defensive coordinator. And he worked as -- the secondary coach assistant head coach secondary coach. Another you know if this is funny this is lesson what not used to this dale because. We're usually playing football this month so we're getting a month head start on the silly season as they college and we were talking about -- a little -- before we came down. There's going to be a lot of stuff going on we have him and gotten into Tom Brady's -- an inning like that which is going to -- on the list is going to dominate the offseason but these these coaching was one of the other reports that he -- yes it was perhaps. If pioli went to Cleveland that he could -- Cleveland and maybe Romeo Crennel states. As the defensive coordinator. Now I don't picture that I don't I mean I don't either but if you're if you're gonna take a demotion I think it take it somewhere else. I think it's hard to go back into the same locker room where you with a head coach and now -- the defensive coordinator. It it and I'm just I'm just guessing here that that it would be hard to do that but it's certainly possible. I I don't I don't. -- that's one of the options here. I think that there will be changes in the Patriots in the offseason -- back that you mentioned the Brady neat thing and I read Tom currencies yesterday. And I also read what what Peter King wrote about it in Monday morning quarterback today -- getting our dueling sources. A source says both of these guys are great reporters they don't make stuff -- The they have sources here and current sources that he's behind schedule and and you know. The possibility. We floated out there by current -- next season is even in jeopardy. That's the bombshell we know he's behind schedule because the infection mature I'm not sure that Tom Thompson Tom said he had the infections that right the very minimum but at least I fell behind and I -- where I guess we're playing semantic games here. I'm going to go back to the weight Peter King wrote it -- to agree with his assessment. Behind schedule in terms of you'd like to have had him working out. Four weeks ago or whatever it is -- behind schedule putting training camp in -- I don't think could be the case. I've seen Brady around what he's not exactly hiding your lately. Maybe in the locker room when the media is here but I'm saying he's around the around town you know. I've seen him walking around. I don't eat much of -- hitch in the giddy up here. I don't think training camp is in -- so in that regard he's not behind schedule I I -- And really do and look I think that.

That you're right about the semantics part of it because I think. -- I think when when Tom when he suffered the infection which calmed himself. Sort of right let everybody know on his own website so -- in this is not a sources as as from the horse's mouth. I think that immediately put chew a little bit behind schedule there at the very minimum and I hear you're assuming that the affection ran its course and everything was fine. Now is what you get into the tools you know little situations and -- do you put beep which side do you believe. And I agree with your assessment of both guys Peter king and Tom current -- not in the business of -- of being outrageous. And you know headline grabbing. You know sensationalized. Stories so I I don't think that either one of them is making up the source here it's just a matter of which one is is gap is -- debris.

Eighty pilots say that you're the Patriots. But the thing I know it all and I agree if let's say the Patriots. And you'll allow somebody to tell Tom Curran what he wrote after. However it happens okay. Have you not increase the value of your asset meaning Matt Cassel yes in the marketplace. By the question being hit you know -- we we just tried to anyway we may not be able to trade this guy gotta be honest with yet. You know you really happen knock us over because we got to our you know our franchise quarterback over here is -- is that what we thought that was we're going to have to hold off on this thing. I think what -- did. I'm not suggesting by the way that he was trying to do this I'm saying whatever source -- On the information. -- Patriots gain an advantage with -- and that I do think that if if it's perceived that you need the players that you maybe registered in dealing. I think that that day in essence ops -- trade value however I think that that may be what the Patriots are trying to do. I can't imagine that it would work. Because if you really really needed the guy you would be trading him. We really read like a franchise him either way okay I would that's not -- point the way he's played over the last 8 weeks or so is really changes I wrote a column San and I didn't think there was any chance they would franchise him. You know prior to I think the second 400 yard games. And then all of a sudden I mean the way I put it this. Did they'd -- didn't go eleven and five's in any way the way we felt that they would. Without without -- a lot of people thought they would still win the division when Brady now. I didn't a lot of people there a lot of luck and don't don't schedule they had going to be eleven and five. I'd have said of course that a lot of people out with the schedule they had they can go about 106 still win the division play good defense run the ball protect Cassel. Lot of people thought that yup that's not how they went eleven and five I know it went eleven to five because. Of Matt well NL the ran the ball great they ran the ball great the last three games out. And a lot of yards but they've passed the ball to run the ball throughout the season. In the last three weeks that power up and played power football. 305 pound Russell start and backfield. You know more power to them but they did not play great defense of football. Virtually at all this year -- mean -- shut out yesterday notwithstanding depth look there's no doubt in my mind that you protect. Your franchise and you protect your franchise by franchising. Matt -- that's that's beyond question I think that you're right about you the franchise him because then you have the right to trade him. Which of -- a free agent you have no right to do when he thing. You can't let that guy walked out of here because that guy is going to get to at least the first round draft. It's gonna get -- more than that by the way the starting price for Matt Cassel going to be a first and black.

Yeah I mean hectic that you're going to area I think to maybe at first and a third or something up that not now though the part that you know. I hate to when these things because -- is you never know what a guy's value is going to be an open market and you never know when you have to add in the compensation it's going to cost the team not only a first and a third there's at first and a blank. But also you know five years and sixty some odd million with probably you know. When he somethin' out final whatever it's going to cost a lot look critically at Matt Ryan got before he ever rule pass in anger he was guaranteed 34 million. He signed a contract for 72 million guaranteed 34 million. Before you knew he could do any right now he has been spectacular but at the time you signed him to the contract. There was that -- factor sure. When you acquire Matt Cassel is there any if factor easily negated that complete while I know that you don't know if he could do with the U. Course you know imply. You know we can play that there there I mean in in Matt Ryan's case you certainly at reasonable Levy could. Which you don't know what to see it you've seen it you've seen it for well. For the most part sixteen games my -- I just said I think that they went eleven and five largely because of Matt Cassel he played especially down the last one. 810 games and I think the turning point was the second half of the Denver game. In -- in the of the Monday night game here at Foxboro he gets sacked the budget times in the first half and that was a continuing theme -- you kind of antsy in the pocket of a sudden he kind of settled down that second half and I think St. Louis was was after that he played a great fourth quarter lead in the team from behind in. It -- just took off from their last eight to ten games were outstanding. So yeah I think you know little bit more about Matt Cassel and you would draft -- Right now and the and you and you gave the draft but it caused you or -- To let him it costs -- and in the -- you you know draft picks or players and it's all draft picks it's never ours by right if the caution draft -- and the money. And and you know -- guaranteed Matt Bryant 34 million before he ever rule pass. You're going to be willing to pay money. To Matt Cassel and you're going to be willing to pay draft pick right because you're going to be in a position if you're requiring him beat you meeting at. I mean you. Use that Minnesota Vikings as an example wanted -- to panic that's a great example I'm looking at that team and I am thinking. Put Matt Cassel on that team with that running game. And tell me what kind of often you've suddenly have a few of the Minnesota Vikings Uga -- Jackson and -- up there who wore awful bowl of them in my opinion. And and if you're the Vikings you're sand and you'll get me Matt Cassel and look out. -- a question for that would be. Minnesota just did that last year with Jared Allen. You know they could they'd they'd traded franchise player and gave up an awful lot for can they do that again. The they have an -- what you want right or did they give at all late in the -- that's what I mean you know trying to using that as an example of a team that that would be desperate at a guy like yes. You know just to change the subject for a quick sex animal looking over your shoulder about it you know he has again. We talked about all the coaching possibilities -- and Mike Shanahan was largely considered to be on the hot seat heading into this season. And it goes on lewis' last three and blows but -- Michael -- San Diego super -- combat the three game I'd deficit with three ago. He's got a beans and trouble right now and talking about that right now and ESPN. The what did you say 1010 to thirteen ten to thirteen. I think I think you gonna be close -- that you know today ten numbered and then you know less that. Talking about when you know the TV guys that you know that the craft guys guys down all. All first year coaches all won eleven games all went to the playoffs the other first year coach Jim zorn eight may not so bad. I mean you can do it if you're good coach you can too quickly in this and I actually think the re tread mail is going to be less utilized I think that they're going to look at the at what's happened. With the guys you just mentioned. And instead of going outlook bill -- going to get a job he wants. But you know instead of going back over a -- of reached a dead -- stiff right you know but instead of going back over you know Jim -- you know that that list of names of guys who -- Marty Schottenheimer -- yeah you know I I I think they're going to say. Pat hasn't really worked for people Wade Phillips wade you know these guys that you know pin to three. Four places and it never really had a whole lot of success. -- You know you look at these first time coaches that. Had tremendous success if you can put -- I thought was going to take job last yeah I think he'll he'll probably be be looked at two you know but I really think that that beat Daniels is going to be a very hot commodity. And it's going to be intriguing -- to watch if Scott pioli is involved and if Matt castles involved and all of a sudden you like you know. But whatever accommodate Yvenson for a while now that's the trifecta. If Europe franchise and you bring in pioli. He brings it mcdaniels and you bring in Matt Cassel. Yeah I think he -- is -- I I don't care how bad your team wise. You become exponentially better almost immediately. But we'll have to see if if it works out I was thought I was Detroit I do that if I was Cleveland now I do that. It's it's a possibility. It took -- definite possibility and they have they have the openings for for everything in. It's going to clean house and start over yeah what are you -- golf front from rock bottom but that's assuming. Bill Parcells doesn't think that's absolutely how about the fact that Bill Parcells was smart and write a contract. That for the next thirty days makes him an unrestricted free agent. By the way not only makes him an unrestricted free agent no compensation -- the Dolphins -- But they have to pay them all twelve dollars twelve man for one year they gotta pay him all twelve million and he can walk with the twelve million and go to New York go to Detroit go to San Francisco go to Cleveland. And they don't have give any compensation for the Jets -- I -- Parcells I love Parcells and I and I I have a tremendous respect for his ability. However I don't like. The aspect of him that. If there's no doubt in my mind yes he was the driving force for almost stories coming out and they don't forget. I have the ability to -- mean to me that the focus it in Miami yesterday should on the Dolphins the team yeah Tony Sparano. And there have their chance to win the AFC east down at the meadowlands in instead there were a lot of people talking -- you just talked -- in the Bill Parcells contract and that's the one thing I don't like about Parcells -- it's all about him.
