It is a Patriots Friday our first real Patriots Friday no more pre season Patriots -- We got real live football coming up this weekend. And joining us here in the Studio One of our Patriots Friday irregulars he has the starting. Offensive lineman Logan Mankins as young guys what's gone REL I don't don't guaranteeing good. If you watch that much like game last night. I didn't get to see the whole game I -- the last four or five minutes. And this most of it now Richard Seymour said that's either a few weeks ago and he said. Guys come out and say it we lost the Super Bowl last year we didn't lose. That gain there wasn't an event we're allowed to confront this thing. Do you have you been able to bring yourself to say we lost the Super Bowl yeah. You're in that in that we lost in Estes one of those games where you want to forget it now. Or you like to have another chance yeah that would yeah that would be nice if we could redo it but had we don't get to do this we have to move on in. We're a focused on this season right now got a big game this weekend and we're very excited about it. He got an interesting guy who will be facing off against her offensive line he has a top draft pick Glenn Dorsey. But he looked like infield for itself for you this kid he's a big physical player because pretty good skills for a guy his size and he was a tough fight pig. He's game paid a lot of money so. We'll see how good he is doing my competition this week.
As I saw a story I think I'm Mike recent road in the globe a couple of days ago. And he was quoting Mike Holmgren after the Seahawks lost the Super Bowl one. Holmgren can believe that people kept talking about it after the games we finally addressed it with his team and he had his coaches. Do some research projects on why teams coming off Super Bowl losses struggle in the past. Did Bill Belichick addressed this with you guys. After the game I'm I'm saying the beginning of the beginning of training camp that he take on the Super Bowl issue and and get into any kind of detail.
Not so much she says remove -- in. As solely had to do if we keep dwelling on that game -- we'll have another we'll have a crummy season this year in. We get the put that behind this and that's I think the questions about the Super Bowl -- soon as soon as this decent season starts for real and we play Kansas City in. I think everyone started to put the game behind them -- enough recruited but as players wolf the game will be behind us and it'll be. All about this season. We haven't senior quarterback Tom Brady and a single pre season game he's been practicing all week -- like Tom Brady you Thomas Tom he's. He's going to do it'd thing he does a good job -- he does so. We expect come the have a good game as long as we given the chance to have a good game.
How would you approach the pre season I don't know from our perspective we were bored to tears because the games don't really matter how did you approach.
I have -- is trying to get better. We go in every game with. A group of plays that we're running against that team and we would try to execute those plays to the best of our ability and sometimes we did -- and sometimes we didn't do very good ago.
Much game planning going on during a pre season.
I'm not sure you'd have to take it up with bill I know they come in with a plays that they what are and then just like a normal week we think those -- the plays that'll work boots. When I think of all the position groupings on this team you know linebackers and defensive backs the running backs whatever it is. I think your position group might have the most unique personality on this team. Having watched you guys and maybe some of that comes from -- your position coach but how would you describe the personality of the guys who play offensive line on this team. We're kind of low key guys except for maybe like he likes to stand at a little more than the rest of the split. We're low key we just go about our business and do we're supposed to and we try to work hard every day which is instill this from -- he pushes us to the max and wants us to get better in. That's who we're here to do and does get better and help our team win games what do you think the first time. Dante Scarnecchia was coaching as opposed to what you think now the the first.
I knew it was pretty. Different lift from being in the big guy on the team never yelled at in college to the first time I made a mistake here this. Getting yelled at being called a lot of different names in. Now that I look back left that in when he does that other younger guys I left side and down and think it's pretty funny but at the moment it was it was and a funny put. I got pretty excuse incident bother me.
Did you have a warning at all that. -- this offensive line coach he's a pretty intense guy if you screw up he'll be all over it.
I had no idea I didn't get a warning could become and for rookie campaign it was me -- nick -- together and he was just -- If it is a pretty good time after practice we looked at each other man and this is going to be a creative. As long as you do you're supposed to and work hard. Does that it.
You know when we're watching the game. Especially for wash and at home we are we're kind of prisoners. Of the TV cameras in coaching film is something completely different so. They're not always focusing off on offensive lineman we know if you called for holding. Okay that's not good -- if you give up a sack best active but we're not looking at every single play. When you guys are in the film room what is it that Scarnecchia is looking after -- if you. Grating out and what what it is his one thing that he really wants this.
It was a see you finish US a mixture that you were working till the end of that play to make sure -- Is that factoring in on making the tackle or pressure in the quarter Beck. Are making their running back have to cut back into the blitz. All kinds of stuff like that -- once you -- proper technique was to see how you start to play if you block the ray guy. And if you gonna finish that -- and he's critical and all this.
Do you guys pay attention to grades that -- always a guy graded out it. 90% or 92% do you pay attention to that.
The main grade I pay attention to is the effort -- the -- to make sure the he sees that I am. -- the nature for myself first that and given. The maximum effort I can peacefully in the and does nature that he sees it and and that. That's the main gate we paid instant I think his effort. I was wonder about a switch the the guys have to play. Michael McKee Richard Seymour who sits in that chair on Monday and nice and quiet a gentleman however mean. And yet when hate when they he would out he's -- different human being. You plain mean if you don't sound mean yeah you could ask of their players is actually yesterday. Hits they would play. Say that I am. Not the nicest guy in the game that it has with Richard he's the nicest guys you'll ever meet outside of football and on the field he's. -- I -- the guy from San Diego Richard Boozer and how do you how do you flip that switch out of it's just in your personality I guess you go out there in maybe is the way they tell you at a playful blow when you're younger. Just it's either you have either you don't get to discuss it there in. This week you're taught to do is turn it on hit people trying to hurt people all that.
They talked about improvement earlier just improving your game during some of these that pre season games. Between last year and right now how to how do you feel like you improve what did you do that. Really went up to another level when your.
For myself personally I think I came and this year I blossom way I was about 1015 pounds. Gotta leave here I wanted to get quicker. I feel that I -- moving faster now and they have more stamina I think I can run faster. Move think decide a lot better in. Just another year in the system McGrath for the systems the and it's just it improves the longer you're in that the longer you do the same thing over and over. -- improve and we've got a lot of guys that have been together well now we feel. We chill together pretty good wood on the field between mile and opened on the let's the three of us I feel when I'm in there with those guys feel very comfortable in what. Is there a fine line means that you lost some weight he wanted to get -- you wanted to get quicker. Which don't want to be small and do which you do Verlander -- want to get to relate. I'm going to get some pretty big guys and if I get too late that you just -- and tossed in there around but I feel the way to and that right now. Is very didn't wait for that they did they come to everybody with -- and thing. Logan when you come -- training camp we want you to be this stunning given that sort of guidance and they give you wait they want you it. I just did -- That it would be the best thing for me and and and they were okay with -- when you did it you know and I and they they saw the results and fuels this it you know that it and you must be tainted.
And we use that you're faster so people know that's that's something in your head they actually have. Your measurements from 2006. And 2007 in 2008 you can see the difference.
They that timeless and everything and we. In the offseason training we time each other on -- team and reach scene in all of that stuff so you see the improvements. At what point this weekend will you go from being Logan Mankins husband and dad to Logan Mankins football player. Had to be Sunday. On -- about the time that. I try not to get too excited about the game until right before the game. I feel effects are concentrating too much on how I want to play. I don't think about the plays all day and run things through my head but I don't try to get excited until. Pretty close to kick -- maybe would recommend it to analysts are again and took a little bit more. But if I get too focused in the locker room I feel. To start. Not thinking about the game as much. I start to lose the my focus. Because and getting too excited about the game and not concentrating on what I really need to concentrate.
He ever have problems of motivation go -- to Daunte where the games it Donte'. I'm really having a hard time getting go on Ortiz who was for some of those.
