8-18-08 Red Sox struggle with the Jays

We yeah course watched the Red Sox over the weekend well Friday and was rained out that. Saturday and Sunday not thought Paul Byrd pitched fine. -- fine he gave up. Now solid and I get -- into the eighth inning when -- is going to do he was he was fine and unfortunately. Talent it was the and it's funny I looked up and it's like the ninth inning and I looked up and and the clock says like 92. It was one -- those it's gone.

Has Roy Halladay had a bad start against the Red Sox this year Everett is like crazy and it is definitely not this year he lost that great game. Against Jon Lester that was a one run game. And even the winning run was -- remember that game now -- company. And -- through his through his glove in the dugout and then got out of their but. He's he's fantastic he's a great pitcher. Not a surprise he is one of those guys definitely. Where you just knowing if you don't get to woman the first few innings you always say that about pitchers but is now not always true people say that about aces all the time all you don't get -- early. You won't see anything late in the game well. That's not always true -- races is true for him at least sister against the Red Sox.

He is so good in and -- Saturday night didn't surprise me at all Paul Byrd making -- Red Sox debut he gave me. Probably as much remorse than I expected unfortunately reality gave me exactly what I expected which -- other than the Pedroia home run. Sunday's a little hard to explain. Are you got your guy out there and the guy well I'll put I'll put it this way we keep saying who which him the ball to in game one of the playoffs. -- they started tomorrow and you had everybody available and you always say Beckett. And that's the guys who had the ball yesterday and you know six runs in the first inning thanks for coming please drive carefully.

Now -- explanation I don't think there is there and I haven't got one now I don't know I just days they're not intimidated by Josh Beckett. I would say he's intimidated by them. But -- no matter what they're hitting woes are. Before they get the Boston and Josh Beckett when they see Josh Beckett they have no problems. I don't think -- Fools them at all right I don't think they're afraid to stand in the box against them they just have great swings against Josh Beckett.

And they did again they always have. And the team in Tampa refuses to go. I mean eight guys injured it would guys on the the ultra quick -- all the latest guy and it just doesn't matter they just keep one I mean. You gotta give credit and it John Madden while -- If you look up how you vote from an entry take team that was coming last year I he's got to play really well this year -- had Award in June. Andy had a -- out a way. It's over in that regard I you know I I still think the Red Sox have got better baseball them but I keep saying in that. And I haven't seen an extended wrong I haven't seen him win you know ten out of eleven there were five in a row our well yeah.

His song when. They were on -- what nine out of nine out of twelve stretch out the first twelve games of the Jason Bay Aaron. And three when they made day after they made the move for dammit so that was a pretty good run yet granted it was against Kansas city Texas and Oakland. For the most part so. He felt like you have great teams out there. They may not need to go on at ten out of eleven structure eleven out of twelve stretch. To get into the playoffs.

And I and I don't mean that I've I've I thought they were going to make a real run at the American League east. Then I haven't passed since have now -- and I thought there -- duel before now like yeah. And and I still don't think it's out of the realm of possibility but it's -- and away. The -- only going to have games in the wild card right now Minnesota and Chicago -- have to well.

That's the thing is going to be great playoff race. I still think there'll be. A good race for the division. But I think with look at how many playoff teams and they managed Minnesota and Chicago we've seen them both recently they're both good teams. We know -- a very good team that plays the Red -- well as a matter -- raise. -- like the Red Sox at home. And there on -- evident phenomenal now. So it's going to be a great raced down the stretch. It's funny that I mentioned the wins them with the White Sox and it's in the gray cement in the Red Sox I didn't meant in the Yankees yeah Yankees are like. The Yankees like okay UN high school. And you had a rival. Again. Aren't you both. You both are top of the line enemy -- got. You've got a four point one grade point average to tickets in advance placement advanced placement courses so you'll Warwick here's your grade point average -- four point one. My -- grade point average is 417. I didn't want those guys -- at third that's what -- the let Janelle -- from it okay. He was the you -- the center fielder on the baseball team but he was star pitcher. He was the he was the quarterback. On the football team. You with a wide receiver.

He had the top cheerleader that was his girlfriend. And you had the you know what you dated the homecoming going -- it they wanted to idea right but it's like that rival. As the Yankees and Red Sox then all of a sudden you come back for your senior year you're you're geared up for that rivalry again. With that guy in all of a sudden. He has dropped off. He's picked up about 25 pounds he's just disinterested. And now -- will happen you're pushing me you're making me better now you don't want to be the quarterback anymore. You're not interested in dating what is there were the Yankees are just. Excellence. Broken down team now. And to them. Talk about next and a bunch of guys hurt but the Yankees are supposed to talk about next year the Yankees had to -- to talk about development in all this now. And we can't give.

Being taken Shelly I guess that you take shots -- Boston that's no matter what kind of state area and taken steps to Boston and -- so but I don't consider. The Yankees. No matter what the numbers are. I I'm gonna say and do what you did last. -- What were playoff contention yet I'm not wild card spot which is not huge. But I just don't let -- that is. They're not as good as the other -- to mention they're not as good as the Red Sox -- not as good as the twins not as good as the White Sox are not as good as the race. So it comical at the best teams make in the playoffs and we know that Angels have locked up already -- done. -- The rays. Have tremendous leverage on I won't say it's wrapped up just because this -- I haven't seen a duel before. And we're still in late August when I'm late August when where and where in mid August. But they have leverage. But those other teams. I have no problems and the the White Sox twins Red Sox are better than it.

This year. And and there's always that question about probably next year do when it's when it's when you making excuses when he stating facts. I mean. If I hated the Yankees and I do. And Yankee fans that well or miss him so enormous long enormous posada -- missed and they go through the list. You know I could say are -- making excuses but it's also fact. And his kind of tough to miss guys like that and think you're going to. Continue to remain competitive on a regular basis --

I I I very rarely make excuses. For the rich. And -- I'm not going to do it. I'm sorry your biter way out of trouble they always by the by the way out of trouble in the Red Sox through the same thing. No one wants to hear -- about the the 2006 Red Sox team and 186 games. And we talk about excuse you have Barrett that was gotten Ortiz hit some problems in many of their for a the bottom line is what they want 86 games. In the year the Red Sox and Yankees. That's not acceptable unless. 86 wins is the number one told rule number one win total in your division. Other than that people want to yeah.
