Time now for a would -- chat with Danny Ainge Danny brought you by US side -- the official insurance broker of the Boston Celtics. And by your local area Lexus dealer the -- you drive a -- distribute discover like nothing else feels. Quite like you Lexus and Anderson equate the highest quality architectural molding and -- Anderson McQuay. In came as well good afternoon getting a Loria.
Good P Larry back from the beginning. I could do it.
Good how are you doing fantastic well it's -- very quiet in here now played imagine in four hours or so displacement rocket once again certainly game one was was impressive from Rajon Rondo standpoint Danica tell you I was -- Tom kites and and -- Larry earlier the most impressive stat of anybody after game one was turnovers zero garage on --
It was down at the beginning he did. -- a good job of taking care of the ball up and which undated big job ability the ball pressure and it -- a good job fight nobody screen -- so little things that we really need to vision and.
you know how to gods did you honestly think this team a turnaround this quickly.
Well I mean if you Hussein -- I think we have the best record in the league you know no it did not. I think that we would be in the position that grand right now where you -- legitimate contender. I hope that we would in the seat and started it would be eighteen to be in the mix. And that's about what we are you know we're no better or no worse than you know 45 team that they -- have a legit shot to win it. It's the same time you know things have to go well for us it's stay healthy we have if you play our best basketball to be picking.
But -- way that things that I think is really good about this year it to me and now most so understated I think what Paul uses bullet. He Big Papi is probably had to be hit this this years of both himself.
Well you know I think policy that has great basketball -- Celtics then and -- you know this is what anybody in the and we put. Too much of a microscope on on the players that is put in the position right now and Tracy McGrady and all that category. I think -- you know it it's the darn near triple double it. Nobody scored one point in the fourth quarter and -- point fingers get to carry you so much in that. What Paul's been allowed to do is you know I've always known -- capable played defensively playing this year. I think while he played better defense -- is -- going to share of the all the people that he trusts decide to dislike I think most good players do. And the key is disputing players around memorable -- the court that they'd been truck. And although it oppression the ball -- he's going to complicate it back there but they are in now and and so you know the trust factor -- in the court it is a big factor in what the ball great players and I think Paul assists. You know keep -- committed this year that it was a great deal of respect for those guys we brought in and he was suddenly got off the bench and he really respects spam. Eddie House. You know -- guys that are coming you know James Posey DePaul -- it to any one of those guys in any situation of the game which is not the mechanical kind of fall.
In your part of the word trust factor I asked Tommy about it earlier talk about the trust factor with ownership they had to be a time when you had to go to them and say look. This is what we're going to have to do and and they had to give me the green light to do it and how important is it to have an ownership that believes in your ability.
All you know basketball I think there's a lot of talk about chemistry on the court and we all build a great talent can overcome a lot of goals and an organization and and so -- believe the talent we have. At the same time that you you have to develop the chemistry somewhere along the lines and we we have good chemistry on the court ship that. Before we can even get things we had to have chemistry with coaches management and ownership. And you know I'm very proud that we've been able to do yet to be able to keep everything that it means that everything has been Grozny and everything is perfect all the time but it you know the fact that there has been an element of trust -- an element of at the same time yet to contrast. And when I came in you know I think the trust that they have for me now much better in the -- they had to meet with the data company and that's which should be in the same thing with Doc Rivers and I think in the players see it in this business here -- entrust their -- day. Every move you made is under a microscope and is scrutinized and you you're only did what you can do. Right now for a fourth organization in in all of role in the organization in that right back.
Yeah I that I was about this that I was like. Al what a great coach doc he has this year and a half as ever but they -- what that Tucker -- really bills have a coach but. You looked up it was made the point last year in the is really strange that never really came out. And eat eat eat me with promising you know I elected coach I think -- we've built like. You know that the pressure about people talk about -- coach and this year deceive him or relaxed to me is just unbelievable.
Well you know block ignore and I also think it's easier coach veterans. That is teach young players especially when your coach that you know winning and losing on your record. And you know that the coach Corey just -- you do when -- a player like Paul Pierce knew last year knew he had the play. Almost perfect basketball the -- and you know everybody is criticizing the coach and star player typically when things aren't going well older and under too much -- a microscope when you -- throws down the stretch. You know everything you do lose the game even -- that by two points -- one point at the buzzer that the coach could -- this year -- And when you win a lot and the thing you do wrong -- up. And so I think that you know but I always believe that -- the leader and doc gets the attention of the players' conduct doesn't really care if you walk. He knows players generally want to be coached. And it doesn't -- he treats every player at the same. But he will coach Kevin Garnett he will coach Paul Pierce people coach Ray Allen and it would be a lot tougher on these young guys like most coaches but at the same time. I've always believed that he was the leader and and that that that covers. 80% of any coaching in my opinion.
There's going to be a tad scary if you're went -- player coach or -- Kevin Garnett comes out after a twenty plus point waited says. We can play so much better than that.
Yeah I did not think we played very well either I mean I'm glad that it means more than the players they had -- when everybody else says about the same way about that we -- lot of -- in our game there's like holes I didn't think we we had cleaned up enough defensively you know on and I felt that. Offensively -- usually what that is could be at the same time there's a lot of really good things happening including results myself I -- we can play better than we did we're going to have to play better as we continue on in this series and and his future series.
He did hold the 38% sure you know a pretty good.
It has obligated to -- good -- to their range shooters and we get a better job on the glass.
UN dark used the do you Torre losing the first game. To Philly as as a means to also strengthen your team in terms of don't become complacent.
You know what I don't I don't know -- you'd better not I think that that. You know I don't know -- that mean our guys are pretty focused and and that pretty you don't really need to talk about what other games ago. And what's happening around the league you guys know that it that they've been in this game along time they're watching escorted seeing what's going on -- amongst other teams so what kind of things may help or not I'm not sure those things help but. Coaches bring them -- I think that's. It's much better with players talk about those kind of -- among themselves or just realizes Detroit. You know might take you feel it I think.
What Danny when they ask you this -- about how how things help other teams. I'm Bob Mike Bibby making comments about the Boston Celtics may have seen his you know there'd there'd fair weather fans does that do win anything at all league European yeah. He -- you won just you know pretty much is his defense off.
You know I don't I don't know -- players want to be that intentionally and then maybe you want to get motivation or draw attention into the crowd will be. Less hard on Josh Smith's baby Mike Bibby -- out of -- EPO calculated way immediately out of it on him in the adjustments along a little more 'cause he's a veteran you can take it there's possibilities for all that never understood what you do by doing that. But apart since responsible but that this -- they have more more on things but there's so much talking going -- amongst all the teams and in this playoff. And I really I really don't understand implied that it. BK they'll want them played there was this guy that set about that in effect.
Yeah yeah. And I'll bait you Uga figured you also -- get off my back now I don't you know we used in.
And I agree in them some I asked me about Bibby away said that and I I'm just like you I believe he has to smuggle player. Just to say something without thinking about that thinking exactly that because Josh Smith. Is he they need him to play well in their fans want him I think maybe is it look. I'll take the pressure I have all the fans primitive me you just you that play in the I think it's I asked to be a cap related move.
I think that's very possible. But -- art it's -- forty on a few times.
wild I don't know what I don't -- back in the and Michael scored 63 you still lost by twelve.
Beyond that I was dealt a body that death match that -- that you get this -- working out what looked like.
Kevin Garnett getting a defensive player of the year I picked. It's a great choice obviously well well deserved second year of what you know it's almost like the Celtics team gets defensive player of the year because of him.
I agree with that I mean it's you know not to take anything away from KG because KGB it'll bring that attitude when your star player. I'd been to what Doc Rivers is saying and what Doc Rivers wants to do defensively and -- let's spend that prompted coach and listen to me that means unbelievable what he's done to a culture but you know our numbers have been good with KG when in the nineteen KG yes our our numbers are good that you on the bench -- beat the -- is KZ has been. His attitude and intangibles he brings to the table that presents I mean obviously this for the intimidating around the basket and he he got a great job so -- pick and roll the team laden outdated. They KG is one of those guys that Bristol not to give out. And make it good strong hedge their show on the screen roll and then recovered to the basket you presence in the that happens when you have guys that don't really. And talented and smart you know committed to playing defense and I give credit to KG and how would you -- credit the ball. Or you know before this season even started getting these guys to buy into the deep that it but the in the first in the first conversation he had with that in the press conference before not even that's. Now full stop hired four with them yet these guys to buy into the concept of decency and it's been that was his first day from the first day they were.
It didn't want to nothing about the difference so -- talked about earlier with the Tommy saw heights and in your opinion how does this Celtics team compare defensively with some of the other. Great teams than last forty years the MBA.
What point did defensive schemes that it's -- more sophisticated there's a lot more time instead being. Players and and skill and strength you know I think that the team's the great Celtics teams have always been able to play decent. It -- crucial times of the games. And I think the Chicago Bulls in the night in the pistons. -- meet with a great teams have out played great he -- in stretches but. You know fifteen really come out of the gate and focuses on defense more than we did and I think it's just more open in the -- more hit and -- and guys don't happen. The play as many minutes and went as planned the -- minutes and and they can share the responsibility offensively I think it's it's much easier to focus on the beat the then.
Any aside from the Big Three which guy has really surprised you the most this year in terms of -- development.
You know there's a lot of guys who wanted to go into the season I I never I've said -- before never -- worried that the victory whether they could get along and whether they which chair and whether they were committed to winning is the question has most of what the other players around them. Good now that it fit our style play in over Shaun obviously has lived up to what we hoped for him and James Posey has been everything we've thought that he was the -- stepped up -- had a fantastic year last year. And -- idea unbelievable summer league and you know training camp and so he's just kind of kept going big stadiums -- contributed more than -- as -- As a rookie year. And you know -- outcome and it contributed Eddie House -- contributed there's really there's not one player on this team that has been disappointing in -- had a disappointing year need to -- brilliantly in the ninth game of the cage missed before the all star break. Scalabrine started those nine games and -- he suggested that -- be in what the same team offensively that it needs to be sensibly do work. So you know there's there's guys Tony Allen you know hasn't been as well he's capable played but he should -- in in game one and I could very well in game one -- that was that was big lift for us.
All right dating a pleasure as always is place going to be jump put in about a three and a half hours from now when it's. There's things are going great so good luck to the Celtics and I neglected the rest the way we're talking next Wednesday. Thanks standing next day Danny Ainge here you know resume with -- over because while Cameron now. Not here yet nobody here yet what is certainly couldn't come and garden is certainly not even the president of the got to come here at 430 in the afternoon you know surprising that -- certainly couldn't ask them to divulge his methods -- evaluate a player -- met this guy is -- this -- role. You must be something that he looks that beyond just the talent but -- wrote the ability of a player in the pretend we're real quick to -- received any interest brought to -- US -- insurance official -- broker the Boston Celtics -- your local area Lexus -- the series drive Alexis this W is -- or nothing else feels quite like Alexis. And it mr. McQuay for the highest quality architectural bowled leagues and lumber. Visited -- equated Cambridge
