AS as as the draft approaches the first of all -- thought to being a general manager because. Nobody understands grasps examines and researches football like you do -- is that something was ever in the back your mind that maybe you'd like to run an organization.

Yes not as a general manager but actually as the president of football operations side. I really that would be the next great challenge for me is to be able to put together a team of outmanned them. Q would you could do and the first person I would call would be Scott -- yeah I would I would sit down with him and trying to pick his brain and sit down with coach bella jacket just try to get a better understanding of the the way it's set up but. These are two guys that are you know. Some of the two of the best in the business when it comes to personnel I I just think -- in America magnificent job and bill put together this football team people lose sight of how many changes have been made in new wing one. And the constant change that they go through but yet the record never change in that to me is a great accomplishment.

All right let's let's hypothetically set this up that a year ago -- rising to -- should put you in charge of the dolphins dolphins have the first pick in the draft do you go for a quarterback do you go for a the an offensive lineman or defensive linemen to rebuild that will be on fringe guys.

I go I go offensive lineman I would take Jake long that would be my pick I I think that's what Miami's going to do Chris long is. An interesting choice. But it doesn't necessarily fit might need right away I would not go for a quarterback I think they get a good job getting Josh -- at this kid can play. He's just been in bad situations which happens a lot around the league where new coach comes in you don't have the supporting cast around -- and all the sudden -- I mean look at the difference. In Tom Brady. This year and last year with the addition of a Donte' Stallworth and Randy Moss two Wes Welker when he didn't have the receivers a year ago when it was a tight end offense.

a -- affected Parcells wants to run 55 and -- 45 indicates which way he might go as well.

Well that's you know which is going to be a little unusual for him in that division because. You know it's a division that likes to throw the football and if you lose them by ten or fourteen that 55% goes out the window I heard it.

Do it what do you think of Matt Ryan is a quarterback and why what what do you look for in a guy that tried to determine whether he's. He's Peyton Manning or Ryan leaf.

Well I think it's the big thing is that you look at physical skills I check accuracy. Pretty touchdown passes to interceptions those are those are things that are very important. And I think one of the things that happened with the Columbine that was to be able to sit down with young man or they're pro day. And really get a one on one with them. And find out what the person's like but from the pure quarterback position. Is accuracy and his touchdown to interception ratio is important and that's what scares me a little bit about Matt Ryan. He threw more balls than anybody in football the issue basically ran a running -- Boston college and threw more interceptions that he's thrown in his career and -- that. It always becomes one little thing with guys when you're spending this much money. Some guys they just pass on the bench and and you know the kid could turn out to be next all pro could be the next Peyton Manning.

Do you think man what he's going to have to have the right people around them.

Giving Manning could have succeeded anywhere I mean if you Adam just on the worst offensive line it you know -- looked like would David Carr was playing behind no wide receivers know Marvin Harrison Woody's still succeeded.

Yes and then two reasons number one because of -- the type of player reais and secondly because of Tom Moore the offensive coordinator Tom really took care of Peyton in his first year major wasn't going to get beat up physically -- mentally gave the chance to get into the game and then allowed his. Work ethic and his ability to be able to flourish but he makes people better. You know but sometimes -- supporting cast make your quarterback better. Payton hit the type of player that makes people around him better I think there would have happened anywhere that would they won a championship I don't know. But I think he's still would have been a great football player.

Age -- wondering if you look at a 100% pie of what makes a great quarterback and and and obviously physical skills. Finds itself at the top -- with a -- arm strength accuracy as you point out and go to the mental acuity in their ability to read defenses and learn what is leadership what percentage of leadership make a guy successful or not in the National Football League.

I think it's one of the things no one talks about because the position basically. Requires that you become a leader and mental toughness to me is the single most important thing any leadership. Bad I think is the most important factor because whether you're -- the company whether you're leading the football team they're going to be times when it's gonna get real tough and people are going to look at you. If you can't handle the media if you can't handle the scrutiny if you can't handle the coaches if you can't handle all the stuff that goes with the game -- you can't lead any but. Until mental toughness plays a big part I -- it you're going to be a quarterback a successful quarterback in this league people are going to look to you for leadership and you have to be able to deliver else you become a David Carr or -- Joey Harrington you know guys who just got beat up so bad. That they're nobody there to follow.

Speaking of beat up -- running backs tend to sort of slide a little bit at this time of year because it's a high price to pay for a guy who shelf life isn't that long. How long do you see Darren McFadden lasting we will will Oakland tried to match him up with Jamarcus Russell do you think you'll -- the New York Jets McFadden is destiny here.

I I I don't see him going past the jets it's six. I'm almost thinking that Oakland Noah and al Davis the way he is if Chris long is still on the board I almost think that he would do that -- nepotism does exist. And he'll back to Todd -- individual with who the raiders but probably the worst quarterback besides Ryan -- at least played a little bit Padres have it was horrible. -- dad worked for the raiders for awhile and an al went that route. I think he would be -- night -- neat story for Chris to wind up in Oakland where his dad played but I don't see him. And necessarily go in Oakland I think they're okay there but the jets I don't think you'll get their six I think that's real wind up.

You talk about the the job of president of football operations Vice President valued you feel like you'd be a good fit what -- Parcells you think it's a good fit for him do you think he has the patience. They need down in Miami to build a winner.

I think it's a great fit. Bill Parcells as a football coach in the hall of Famer. Bill Parcells as a personnel manager is equally as talented as -- I think is the way he has put teams together. In my opinion has been overshadowed by the accomplishments that he had in the four different organizations that he's worked at. I think you know just it just start looking at the people that they picked up I mean. Miami ended quite a few people saying how you get Keith Davis said -- safety Justin Smiley as a tackle Ernest Wilford Reggie Torbor just account -- people that are going to be able to contribute right now. Then you bring in the draft pick which every winds up with which you'll probably play. And really all they lost was -- Thomas.

Well personally not you're not going to get Chad Johnson away from Cincinnati that you waste -- time I I don't care how much he you know stops is speeders Granger -- If I was Cincinnati you'd be stupid to let him go let him sit out his big games and Doris son Daniel -- remember. Yeah I think you badgers experience is anybody if somebody B and discontent but they come back and they have to play if they want to get that year. Pac man Jones I just saw something in the paper this morning it you know you wonder when the problems you sit down with them I would give him one more chance. But I'll tell -- something guys the paperwork it would be around him would be so -- solidarity TV stuff dished out if he clipped the toenail. No big turn around I would -- it practice two weeks ago it's an entirely different type of football team. One with much more experience they lost fourteen starters before last year you've got a freshman playing quarterback who didn't get a chance to practice because of an arm problems so. Now all that behind him there's experienced they've upgraded to wide receiver position which is theory that felt like they needed to speed. He's got some terrific running backs. Defensively they'll approach it differently I'd say at a minimum they'll win seven possibly eight this year but setting themselves up for the future.
