Joining us on our table right now is one of the all time great New York football giants Carl banks is -- Tennessee -- are doing great. Carl is is interesting I see you today. And I saw you last night to -- last night. Super Bowl the 21 to reward to anyone giants and Broncos goatee and a ferocious hit on Sammy winder in the backfield has got to write up in the chest and stop them in his tracks but what do what do you remember from that game I may have is watching that and and one thing I I forgot about. That the Broncos actually went up ten to seven in the game and you got your --

Well Bell's game where you personally are close by the best game I could ever have I mean I was in the zone and our quarterback fortunately was in the zone as well you know and he knows the game that I was I was really looking forward to we are very good team. This was our biggest challenge -- no way and and our defense with up to the task and we just really wanted to. Go out and try to dominate the football game but we we seize the moment we knew the magnitude of the game it was kind of that that moment we have been waiting for you know haven't been beat that following the previous year by the Chicago Bears great team. You know experiments showed us where we needed to be in order to your champion and we you know set our goals from there did them in a big game -- that we will be in the super -- the next year -- and that was our goal and we got there.

He come to this game with a unique perspective one of the all time great New York Giants and but you also kind of nova coach on the other side pretty well till.

You the it's it's farming -- got -- a week ago who would who would do better the giants maybe six or marrying the or the patriots parents as well. You know there's wearing guy who is terribly common denominator he coached both you know people into Mary's coach and his schemes -- It would be fun just to see Bill Belichick versus Bill Belichick you know I would Bill Belichick the in this off into the patriots given the talent he has. It's interesting you know do more things changed mormons do the same I'm not surprised by of the year that the patriots are having the success they've had over the years with bill Lewis the coach I think a lot of -- would he -- it is. Rooted in sound fundamentals that's our bills this team every year. They've been you know. No different than the other teenagers don't bounce to -- world with regard to dealing with adversity dealing with injuries. They have been different because -- Federer at work. You -- interview Europeans who they have the best talent they have you look at the -- the patriots you know they have a kid -- this summer. They've had significant injuries to their -- we lose Harrison. And -- just continue to give you know they go to the giants game last game of the year with their whole right side. It's you know terrible hallmark of work that patriots organization has always been about in terms of making adjustments and doing the things that that make them do it consistently week in and week out and you know they are you are tell people all the time -- understand bill bell -- understand the patriots they're not the same team from week to week. From game -- game from terrorism -- play. They are very good being able to adapt and make adjustments that's what they do he'll lose very engaged in you know you knew -- early on when his defensive coordinator with the giants because he was very. They're very engaged in in incoming user friendly if you will he want to make sure. That the D pimps do with the circumstance love in the fifth with the players worry wasn't that -- defense dammit run it it's like. Okay let me see what I had. And you know I can remember. Very very based on our personnel players we drafted players we lost even in Cleveland. We weren't the same team from one year to the next if our personnel dictated there we have to be something else -- stand up in the first many camera three okay. We were this we have the ability to be this this year this is how we're doing we're build it. From you know -- solid foundation we start with the basics every year that's the thing that you look forward to. Is that every year you open up training camp. Everything started with the bases he'd injures jump transported say okay I got a veteran team we're very given to the fair to pieces of it. Every year balanced consistency of Bill Belichick it started with the basics you know the fundamentals of understanding. You know the defense how you wanted to be played. And everybody at Miller everywhere else did him so I just think that took foundation that you routed. You know in in the things that that lends itself to success over the long haul and a lot of people were critical of him when he was in Cleveland MRI bet you. In hindsight -- the you know or discuss it wasn't as crazy as we thought he was you know maybe he was that much into football. In really could care less about you know are entertaining the media you know that's him you know only thing he cares about. Is for bothering you guys of cover them long enough to know that you know he wants to make sure his players are prepared to play.

interest -- you saw multiple dimensions of Bill Belichick. You some as a coordinator with the giants then when he got to Cleveland with a head coaching position he brought you -- wanted to to help them out. Compare those guys what was the defensive coordinator like in what was ahead -- young bill belichick's life.

Basically the same guy -- very personality. You know understood you know the value of preparation and -- these are very detail oriented guy. If having to -- infrastructure in place that supported that type of mentality was important to have and that's why. You know even as a coach he was building behind the scenes guys like Scott pioli and Eric Mangini and you know a few other guys. But now he has the system in place as people that understands what he wants. You know and they give it to him in in the good part about it is that ownership in New England. They buy into the philosophy of we need to be vertical and our thought process we don't need to be. Coaching you know in picking coaches for coaches and you know picking personnel that doesn't fit with -- coach wants to do bear -- vertical or your thought process and it's it's been a great being American a lot of organizations can learn a lot -- the patriots because it's an integrated process but. They are all verdict we -- here in their thought process in terms of the owners are going to give him something he doesn't moron he's not going to do something that doesn't fit with what the image to the patriots are all about.

I had a brilliant question lined up Corey. And I was distracted as to this the better question because as he wave your hand I see a fantastic ring. On your hands the Super Bowl ring what does that -- mean to you.

On the -- best means you were the best team in the all of the NFL that year America have men have two instances where -- you know on the on the winning team in the best team in football it here.

Did you feel at times when when you first started working under Bill Belichick. He almost asked more review mentally than physically.

No but he was challenging. Because we spent a lot of time in meeting rooms and dom probably the wrong person -- because great affinity for him. But it -- do it could be tenuous at times tedious at times but -- you know every Friday in the meeting room you wouldn't you know it was pretty much. And our test it was really challenged you know it was an exam week you have to Kerry -- picked the play right at drop a play. -- Talk about your response tire -- with a deep into -- you know from start to finish you can say would you do Lima so here's a deep sense of firm Imus off. In -- as would every guy depth. I mean it was I mean he will -- you know 567 guys who gives a different responsibility. And it wasn't too embarrassed by you know because you still have to Saturday you're right. Bart is just show. The level of accountability he put on every player so that if something broke down when we got through the silent we knew exactly what it wants. Innings is okay this is what broke down he'd come officers this would happen. You know eleven -- eleven guys are saying here -- the guys there's no he's been an trial yeah definitely are no better Eduardo. -- it's it's like. He pre determined you know what the riskiest you know what went will be the maximum that can happen to us by being in this play. You know if a guy agencies that good then. You know we gave up more to a great player but he knew pretty much with the risk for.

I got to know Tom Coughlin when he was at Boston college and I was doing the games there when he was there. And I think I sensed that there are a lot alike in terms of detail orientation again at every detail every every single bit of preparation in theirs in they're in line. I'm not sure they're the same personality wise but they're a lot the same in terms of how they road --

Again philosophically they are. Very very close. And I don't know I've ever had gone to the plate for Tom he was on our staff right I've been around him long enough to know him I've been a huge supporter of his because I've seen. With the microwave mentality of the media can be you know wanting instant results and I really looking at what's being built what's being developed. And you know Thom believes in. Developing players just like the patriots believe in developing the back in the their roster. You see the emergence of guys like. Brandon Jacobs you see a guy like Ahmad Bradshaw and they're probably six or seven guys on their roster. Who are major contributors. Two of the success of this team and nobody figured could ever help them you know you lose the greatest running back in the history of the organization. Do you think it's going to be a vacuum and lo and behold two guys step up three guys step up without derrick ward in a fourth guy. With Reuben Droughns so they got the results dating -- from one guy but they got the same you know desired result quarterback who everybody you know threw away you know by a week six he was no good. But you know these are half glass half full guns they focus on building from the success has instead of you know tearing down from the failures and nobles of the things we see you know philosophically there. They subscribe to the same theory of success in because there are rooted in -- great foundations also also I think Tom has done a great job is going to continue to do a good job and I'm happy that the organization had enough faith and see that there are more there was more good. Coming from this organization and bad because when you look at the emergence of young players -- roster. You know coaching staffs are doing something right -- is not focusing on the top line -- Young guys few injuries happen. You know it's one thing about the patriots he gives that would be in the have a significant injury well who's to say. You know they lose their quarterback -- maybe you losing an offensive lineman is just as significant to the operation. As it would be if another team lost -- running back you know so every team goes through. Injuries in in adversity in the teams they're committed just. In keep moving are the ones that have the most success I think that's something the giants have been able to do too because young defensive backfield. In the complex deacons under prospect Nolan and they've had more rookies back there. Indicated that they did that adjusted deep into just got the players ready to go because it's you know. We use our you know he had three you've ended the one game with three rookies. Starting in the defensive backfield in -- go back to zone they just stayed in there may have in the blitz and they made these guys have learned their responsibilities and that's something. That Bill Belichick. Would do in as a coaster as -- you've got to be raised you know and everybody doubted so I think it's going to be a fun game to watch we'll see what happens you know moving pages and regular season greatest team going up into the game degrees thing going so if they win it. Every single season if they don't they still had a wonderful year the giants were making history giant killers in. You know -- you spoke of developing players but also developing people and personnel department. And the coaching staff when you played with a guy named pepper Johnson. Do you imagine that he'd be a coach one day yeah they're really their tempers were Mario where my best -- in the world and he's a gym rat like myself and we love the process. I affecting people him doing human being -- And so we. I Casilla because I would be -- and if I remember -- business interests in being able to be a broadcaster. It will be an analyst a member panther cars the closest thing I can be coached so so he had an enemy even then yeah.

We can't thank you enough thank you are very much it was early -- and we do thank you. Carl banks joining us here on Sports Radio W media
