All they were recognized yet. What do chair in front of the door trying to keep you thought I would the issue at. -- Let's go to great that it it is you know I -- I'd have no deal is not up on the acted like -- I don't out of position that's why do I don't I don't believe about an hour and half from Phoenix but real close. I have been diving myself and focus it and you know trying to win football games and I apologize -- here I am back you do and you know.
Go back. --
After the Super Bowl. You know back when when you during your very first Super Bowl and I heard you talking about this last night with Steve Burton you know you think I'll be there all the time the.
I was a the 96 you know rookie -- And a great coach great quarterback things -- got a good team may have the chance of the superbowl moves will be back the word. There I was -- music codes they either fallen apart and it we sort of went down with that we had a fight to get back up and man. I think what is this this is my. That's -- it's pretty 45 you'd you'd like clockwork -- and a whole other ones you get yeah yeah. So so tell me since last night he -- count one to Rio went through swollen and 11 half we played and then. Brett -- when you're probably in progress progress if you stick him again it would it would have been nice I would have been nice but as I was watching that game last night in. In my my the first thing I said after the giants when that game was Bayern that the way they've it was two two in the NFC going on the -- the way they going to mean from a chance at -- they don't think a lot of people and the data they don't care if they don't care about who's given the chance or not they care about how they play and they're -- and it is going to be it's going to be it's him towards -- how many people from Arizona did you hear from yesterday and and today this morning but I actually had some here also so. Not a cause a lot of people congratulate me and I -- my old teammates who have played with the numbers yours -- that that came into the game in and constant calls emails text messages -- everything is congratulatory and and well -- been.
The offense for the team this year has been otherworldly high scoring offense in team history and I think in a lot of ways the defensive unit for this team is kind of suffered almost by comparison at times. Do you guys feel like you've maybe had a little chip on your shoulder could you played that way the last couple games.
Now I think we've we've. We've stepped that up the last couple games is because -- in the playoffs but. I mean I think people when you beat a team that's by maybe 52 to seven or 5214 whatever whatever the scores were. I think that everyone focuses on the 52 points that we scored not not to the seven of the ten that we held them to so we understand that and and that only -- we are always we will score points the way we put this the way we were scored points I mean. Fifty yard bombs sixty triple passes all of that stuff and then you get excited about that we and we understand that but there we've we've we've known all along that. Their people on this team that. That that play hard and had to play well defensively is the most Maroney is the Kevin talks you know those guys that that maybe go a little bit unnoticed but when the big games come around. You -- those guys that to step up to win football games.
How did you approach this game knowing that. Here's a chance to Philip Rivers wouldn't play knowing that there was a chance at Ladainian Thomas and when play here's a chance that Antonio Gates wouldn't play. Do you look at those guys on film say look I'm prepare for their best or do you say look I'm going to be realistic here and I have to prepare for woman's face in the field.
You prepare for the best that he -- do you anticipate gates is going to be 100% and you anticipate rivers and Tomlinson is going to be a 100% because if you don't know all of a sudden they are. Then that you sort of car new heels -- I think they'd be this effective so we anticipated them being effective. With rivers with with the rumors come about coming out about the AC or somethin' like that during the week in. And okay do we do we look at -- little -- and I think I think we have to and we did so we watched a little bit of -- because he did finish the game. And to say the truth to not finish a playoff game. You have to be really hurt you know so we figured rivers was might have been seriously hurt but so to have him come around start. And perform the way he did I think I think it's a testament to his toughness allow.
Along those lines -- Ladainian comes only had a few carries yesterday for a one -- the game did you notice anything I mean you you popped a one time did you notice that he was just a little different.
No I don't think he had a chance to show to show if he was he was the same Murphy was different I think on on his runs they were. I mean the 11 that I had a mean just he's sort of saw me with inside leverage any sort of conceded -- when I went went to the sideline and pushed him out. I didn't really see him making things do anything spectacular while he was in there. Was he hurt or not you -- he asks a question for him answer but our our I would assume I would assume that for him to pull himself out like they're the coaches not to put him back there that he he he was he was limited that he -- 100% -- I think. What made that an easier decision for the coaches maybe it was turner you know that type of player that he is -- mean the great -- that we respect him as as he is I mean he was breaking tackles yesterday he had at one nice eleven -- run that he threw off the goal line but we think he's a great -- also.
You've had a real -- career of making big plays in the red zone. He had a big one last night on Antonio Gates at the goal line tell me what the deep sense of set up was free indeed you have gates all the way on that play.
It was it was a set that I think Sproles was in the back field. And Sproles is -- guy that can give you a lot of troubles that he if he gets in space so we sort of anticipated him motioning out to empty there was some conversation going on between junior myself and Mike were able before the motion happens Sproles I believe motion out to a to an empty backfield was mean there's no there's no -- in the backfield sets to our left. And you know what we saw that. We junior and I knew that we would be on gates because he would be the primary and -- receivers you'd be the number three receiver so junior sorted out cent average I had inside an average. He try to run a little bit of mature route which means make you become 11 waived by Turkey back the other way and so we both had a bracket well. Rivers reacted to that by scrambling -- are left and then junior took often and saw the scramble that wanted to go get pressure on rivers. And -- van. -- broken his scramble mode when a quarterback is scrambling try to find an open spot so he ran off his -- I sort of chased him and -- on the ball thrown negates you know as it would get my hand --
Pretty good I doubt if that's your breakdown now you can you can answer this question do you think yesterday that rivers broke out of Drew Brees is that don't. Accord provides for able -- and let's say yes I would say yes because. I would like to see him not do as much stock in -- as he does you know given to the extracurricular stuff when he's. Talk and to the fans are talking to visiting team's quarterback -- some type stuff. You look at in sort of shake my head and wonder what -- was is doing for. But it. I think yesterday that was that -- was his him sort of to lead his team on on as he was hobbled you know I think he's awesome comments from some -- teams. Teammates they respected what he did because he was hobbled early on during the week so. When you do something like that year in the respect your teammates and your colleagues and so. I'll have to see -- a little bit respect from me and maybe that's that this is going to be -- upon his maturation process was a lot happened on yesterday I saw Richard and and McNeal for the game. Yeah and and I read the ultimate comment from Hardwick after the game worries -- Richard what's. The -- that more than normal I think so.
I think he's I think what you have history these two teams and we were there have been a couple hard five victories and and there have been some things said before the gains and after the games and -- we're we're a team that you know if we want we want to say some things as it's going to be on the field you know and now we're not going to back down from every anybody especially Richard and you know so if if there comes a time when some gets in my face and and -- something to me I'm -- would have to say some backed them also. Chances are he'll have nine other guys right behind. I salute him as I mean those those once on those little skirmishes and Dixie was in the middle but I mean you can see all of us go go right up in there in the middle you know immediately because I mean you -- with -- with the -- one of us and that's -- all of us.
and I you felt like last year they had a sense of entitlement San Diego during the game is almost like they were casual we're gonna win this game were up by eight in the fourth quarter. Did you notice any thing this year today learn from last year's experience where they was there any humility and all that phallic about I need to ask them.
I think. I don't know because. They weren't in the same situation they were last year last year they were the end -- team of the NFL they were they had the MVP and they had the home field advantage I think it was -- and they were the ones everyone was saying. Without that was that was going it rolled right through the playoffs and going to the Super Bowl so you know maybe they did to have that look a little bit of -- last year but. You know they didn't I didn't I didn't notice any of it you know yesterday because you know tell that you -- have have a right to be taken that way because they were coming in our house and now we we we establish ourselves so. Now let's see how they handle it if that ever happens for them again.
It would be smart if one of the young players on this team was to take you aside sometime in the next ten days since it. Tell me what am what I mean for here tell me what's different if one of the young players does -- yet what are you going to tell.
Well first -- elements is try to get everything everything done early about. How you want to distribute on the tickets you get news you hotel rooms you want to accommodate all of your your friends and family -- and that comes a time where and the word you use has to be no. You know I mean you're gonna have multiple requests and I mean multiple multiple requests from people maybe you haven't even. It's you've spoken to -- alone times oh no -- break it down get it done early so you can focus on your preparation -- and I am army you know this morning already our game plan on you know what she told you what your.
Yeah halfback as I what -- what we're going to do who's going -- who's who's here we do this and -- them that we met on radiant were already on the same page in Vietnam armory now we have a meeting at noon to just things. Our feet Marty's son though who who's better is there no -- definitely. And it's all of those -- we -- Like until because -- answers no okay anything else you couldn't ask for trouble in its high -- him at all for -- right.
I have college friends an idea how these families out there she's from out there -- so it's it's this is going to be fun for me and it's it's it's nice that. Where they're from -- is it's about an hour and a half drive away from where we're going to be so it's not that far and that is going to be very enjoyable see you know a lot of familiar faces.
Where you don't have to work by any more bad weather games but I remember you stand for allowed that Watergate I think we're talking about snow I don't know if you're talking about -- out there yesterday -- that. Now that was cold you know it. There was there with there -- people ask me if I was cold out there and and a couple of times -- in the middle have a TV timeout just have to wait around for for the officials to blow the whistle that started in so you feel that you a little bit but. I mean. We're Lowell spoiled on the sideline with a heated benches and it would put quotes around -- stuff like that but. But that I go home in Weston group a game you know and -- if -- that was brutal you know so Tom Coughlin space scared -- It is like yet though when -- at them like that everything all the above yeah so you see the girls in bikini. I did I did crazy I have. Why.
Right they're bad lie -- exit there's not enough tequila in the whole world to make that balance right that is that is that is the wrong and congratulations you get go back he gets to another opportunity and that's and and finally you can actually say the two -- Super Bowl there -- him -- let -- I think -- and -- Congratulations that he was the NC and Arizona.
